HAMARI ADHURI KAHANI: - A TRULLY EMPHATIC TALE OF LOVE

Sometimes, you have to look beyond what you see to visualize and notice what is on display. With this movie, I had huge expectations as it was from Bhatt camp, believed to be the real life story of Bhatt Saab, had awesome music and comprised of the finest actors of Bollywood. Well, it was all worth it in the end.

Thanks to a minor accident, I couldn’t watch it up until now and had read a lot of negative reviews about the movie. Still, I was firm to watch it. After all, you have to decide for yourself whether you believe with what is shown or not, can’t sit back on others views.

When tears pour out from your eyes towards the end of a movie, you know that it has won your hearts. My eyes got easily wet at few important stages in the movie. HAK has indeed been a very fruitful experience for me.

Love as they say is difficult to get and only the few chosen ones get it, so the ones like me who haven’t yet succeeded or I would say failed, can easily connect with it.

The story of the movie justifies the title of the movie and that Love finds its way eventually. Well, Vasudha(Vidya Balan) is forced to marry Hari(Rajkumar Rao) on the belief that he is a good guy. He goes away after a year leaving Vasudha and his son to ponder alone.

After 5 years, things change as Vasudha meets Aarav(Imran Hashmi) who owns 108 Hotels. The simplicity of Vasudha, who works as a florist strikes immediately with Aarav and the story moves on from there.

As we move ahead, Aarav finds Vasudha’s journey similar to the one his mother had and he wanted to make sure Vasudha doesn’t suffer from the pain and miseries of life. Love isn’t a business and it has to be unconditional. You have to just Give and not expect anything in return, but being so kind is too tough in reality.

The movie sends out a strong message and the end is really touchy.  What transpires through the course of the movie is a sheer showcase of true love and respect for the person you aspire to be with.

Nothing much can be said about the story by Bhatt Saab, it inflicts and depicts pain & I could associate with it fully. It’s an official hat-trick for Mohit Suri Sir with Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain and now Hamari Adhuri Kahani:- Mesmerizing music leads to an overall triumph. The direction was good and showcased almost everything. Cinematography by Vishnu Rao seemed real as the scenic beauty was so nicely shown.

Editing by Devendra Murdeshwar is worth a mention as it is a crucial part of the movie. When it is a Bhatt flick and Shagufta Mam with the dialogues, one expects them to be good and they truly were. There were so many dialogues that depicted reality and seemed legitimate and could be agreed upon.

As expected, music is top notch in this movie as well. The trio of Jeet Da, Rashmi Mam and Arijit Singh have done wonders with the title track. The lyrics pinches bitter reality, singing provides it the pain whereas the tune provides it melody:- An excellent composition. It took me around 6-7 hearings to come to the conclusion that Yeh Kaisi Jagah is my pick as the best song of the movie. Superb lyrics and excellent singing by the newcomer Deepali Sathe. But as they say, situations change the view and it did. The title track just blew me away in the movie & made it my top choice. That didn’t happen with CityLights as Ek Charraiya ruled all over. Even Humnava sung by Papon, composed by Mithoon and written by Sayyed Quadri Sir is superb. Newcomer Kunal Verma wrote and Ami Mishra composed Hasi which is unique in its own way. All in all, the music of Hamari Adhuri Kahani is truly melodious.

Coming to the performances, Vidya Balan as Vasudha sheds tears and acts wonderfully proving that she is still amongst the finest actresses in India. Imran is awesome and speaks a lot with his expressive eyes. His acting has been top notch here. Rajkumar Rao is my favourite, he portrayed a different role and yet did really well. Madhurima Tuli, Amala and rest of the support cast also did a good job especially the policeman.

To end with, Hamari Adhuri Kahani is a movie for all those who have loved and lost at some point of time in their life. It is a movie from the heart and deserves a watch. Yes, it may seem a tad simple and old, but then, that is the beauty of it. You need such movies to believe in Love. For me, Hamari Adhuri Kahani is fully triumphant in its attempt for me and my tears were the proof of it. I will rate it 4/5.
