HAASIL Which means the desire to Attain.
For a movie to be a good movie it not essential that it has to have star presence, similarly not all the movie with star value are good movies.
Of all the movies released in the year 2003 Haasil is a dark horse. Tigmanshu Dhulia the Producer, Director and Story writer of Haasil has proved that even without star presence and at a very low budget good films can be made. HATS OFF TO TIGMANSHU FOR HAVING TAKEN SUCH A BOLD STEP.
Story of Haasil is set in a University in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, the story revolves around the two rival gangs one headed by Gauri Shankar (Asutosh Rana) who is Student Union head and the other headed by Ranvijay Singh (Irfan) who has a desire to establish his foot in politics. Story revolves along the rivalry of both these gangs and also along the love life of Aniruddh (Jimmy Shergill) who is a student in the university and also a stage actor and Niharika (Hrishita Bhatt) who is also a student of the university.
Aniruddh happens to meet Niharika and falls in love with her. Once Aniruddh happens to meet Ranvijay Singh and he is quite impressed by Ranvijay and becomes an ardent fan of Ranvijay. Inspite of his friends warning him to maintain a distance he becomes very close to Ranvijay.
Niharika's father a thakur (Sharad Saxena) disapproves her relation with Aniruddh and her father along with her brothers tries to dissuade Aniruddh from continuing any relationship with Niharika by threatening and beating him.
Aniruddh informs Ranvijay about the incidence and Ranvijay advises him to take revenge by hitting Niharika's brother. Aniruddh blindly trusting Ranvijay follows his advise and gets himself involved in the dirty violent world of politics before he can realise the fact he is charged with attempt to murder and police are in look out for him.
Ranvijay asks him to flee away and sends him to one of his friends (Rajpal Yadav) place at Mumbai. Ranvijay gets interested towards Niharika and he has a desire to attain Niharika (thats what Haasil is about), Niharika is against the marriage but Ranvijay plans to get married to her forcibly. He plots to get rid of Aniruddh, but Aniruddh escapes the attempt and comes back to Allahabad.
By the time Aniruddh is back preparation are in full swing for the marriage of Ranvijay and Niharika. Aniruddh with the help of his friends makes arrangement to elope away with Niharika. Both reach a mosque and gets married as per the tradition of Muslims (this reflects how people from two community helps each other and it is only people like Ranvijay who tries to spread communal hatred amongst people from different community).
The matter of Ranvijay planning to forcibly marry Niharika and the matter of Aniruddh's getting married to Niharika reaches the Chief Minister and studying the situation Chief Minister gives Aniruddh and Niharika shelter in his place and protects them. Ranvijay reaches the place of the Chief Minister and threatens to topple his government. Seeing Ranvijay Aniruddh and his team flees from the spot. Ranvijay chases them, both the teams clash with each other and final result all the team member including Ranvijay, excluding Aniruddh and Niharika are killed.
Chief Minister comes to the rescue of Aniruddh and Niharika. Niharika is hesitant to go with him as she is of the opinion that only gangsters attain an entry to politics, she questions the CM as to how she can trust him as he too would have been a Goonda (gangster) before joining dirty politics. To which CM tells them that he has come only to protect them and take them to a place of safety. He also tells Aniruddh that he will take care that the blame of murdering Ranvijay does not come on him.
The best part of the movie is the last dialogue, on dropping them at a safe place before leaving CM tells Niharika before joining Politics I was not a goonds but a school Headmaster.
Performance wise Jimmy Shergill, Harshitta Bhatt, Rajpal Yadav, Sharad Saxena, Tinu Anand (As Aniruddh's father) have performed very well.
There is not much of role except for one or two scenes for Asutosh Rana. The person who has impressed everyone with stunning performance is Irfan in the role of Ranvijay Singh, he has just stolen the show. Keep it up Irfan.
Nothing great about music of Jatin Lalit, Cinematography by Rafey Mehmood is quite good. In all Tigmanshu has been a very good captain for his entire team.
HAASIL is honest, real and powerful drama which keeps you glued to your seat. However it is not for those people who go to see a movie only with entertainment point of view. Haasil is not everyone's cup of tea. If you want only entertainment miss it, if you want to see today's reality DO NOT MISS IT.
HAASIL proves that not all the politicians are bad,
and its not essential that only bad people join politics.
