Gunah Ka Karz (The Debt of Crime) By Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak

No matter how much criminals tries to hide his crimes from Laws and Justice but he can’t save himself from the hand of law. This is the fact of Crime and law. This is the best relationship of Crime and Law. There are so many criminals who get away and survived his-self after crime but they lived life in fear of being exposed.  Many criminals did many crimes more to conceal his previous crime. “Gunah Ka Karz” (The Debt of Crime) written by Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak has the same thought. The main protagonist of this novel did many crimes to conceal his past crime.

The 181st Novel “Gunah Ka Karz (The Debt of Crime)” of Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak of his career of writing was first time released in May 1991. In the category of thriller or miscellaneous this novel comes on the position of 31st. By the way, Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak had normally written in his series like Sunil, Sudheer and Vimal but Pathak sir has also got popularity in the thriller or miscellaneous category. Dial 100, Teen Din and Kagaz Ki Naav are such classic and marvelous thrillers from which we can see the highest level of writing of Pathak sir and reader wants these in respect once more and once more.

“Gunah Ka Karz (The Debt of Crime)” is a story of a man Ramesh Ahuja or a murderer Ramesh Ahuja who had murdered his wife but was survived from the clutches of law. He got inspiration and appreciation after escaping from the offence of murder, after surviving from the punishment of law, after daylight deceiving to law. Now Ramesh Ahuja got too much strength and power to run an illegal business of printing of fake currency in guise of his printing press business. Now he was living very comfortable life. Ramesh Ahuja used many goods to get different faces or disguise his self to run fake currency in market so no one could recognize him as the Ramesh Ahuja.

His illegal business was going very fantastic and his life too. But there comes a life turning point when he sold his Open air Jeep to Mr. Vivek and in return of his Maruti Car. In this deal, Mr. Ramesh Ahuja was going to pay Rs. 5000/- more to Mr. Vivek. Mr. Ramesh Ahuja told to Mr. Vivek to come to his printing press office to get more Rs. 5000/- no next day. When Mr. Vivek reached Mr. Ahuja office, he found Varsha Saxena secretary of Ramesh Ahuja in place of Mr. Ramesh Ahuja. Varsha Saxena was his friend before 6 years and now he was happy to see her again. After taking the confirmation from Mr. Ramesh Ahuja Varsha gave Mr. Vivek, a cheque of Rs. 5000/-. But Mr. Vivek showed his incapability to take this cheque as he needs the amount in cash.

Now, here came the very next turning point in the life of Mr. Ramesh Ahuja. Varsha Saxena gave Mr. Vivek a cash or Rs. 5000/- in currency of 10 notes of Rs. 500 from the envelope of personal box of Mr. Ahuja and kept the cheque there. This envelope was belongs to the fake currency which was printed by Mr. Ramesh Ahuja. On the Same Day, Mr. Ramesh Ahuja got to know that 10 no.’s of notes of Rs. 500/- are missing from the envelope and there is a cheque of Rs. 5000/- is kept separately.

Now here comes the next turning point which bound you till the last pages of this novel. Now Mr. Ramesh Ahuja wants his fake currency back. Because he does not want to be fix in the crime of illegal printing and trading of fake currency. Ramesh Ahuja thoughts that he will be caught by police very soon. To hide his crime of printing fake currency he thought to do more crime. He thought to murder, theft, burglary etc. to get back all fake currency from Mr. Vivek. These crimes were looked like very easy for him because he does not want to get into the clutches of the law.

In the next pages of novel, he murdered Mr. Vivek in a very mysterious and cleverly manner. He also murdered Mr. Vivek girlfriend Monika in her house with fantastic and using sharp minds. Inspector Bhagat friend of Mr. Ramesh Ahuja was investigating these murder cases.

So there are many story-turning points in this novel. The Race between Ramesh Ahuja and Law was looks like the race of Cat and Mouse. This race became fast when 10 notes come in existence with Mr. Vivek. We can feel that Mr. Ramesh Ahuja can be caught on this page or on that page. We are shocked after reading the context of Mr. Ramesh Ahuja and his survival skills from Law. We are shocked after watching the deceptive act of man to his fortune.

Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak sir presented this story in very different way. Pathak Sir presented this story character-by-character, the story of every character is shown in part vise. The story of Varsha Saxena comes in existence in the beginning of the novel. In next part, the story of Ramesh Ahuja comes in existence where he confesses the murder of his wife. Later the story of Mr. Vivek and Monika come in existence. Similarly, Pathak sir drives the story forward.

The way Pathak sir presented the story very beautifully; similarly, each character was created and formed very beautifully and marvelously. The characterization of each character, their past and present and everything about the character were very fantastically presented by Sh. Surender Mohan Pathak Sir and so why these characters look very strong. The character of Varsha Saxena starting from first page and complete her journey in last pages. Similarly, Mr. Ramesh Ahuja character was defined. The character of Vivek and Monica is also good and they were need of this story. There is strong and good character narration of Inspector Bhagat is also there as bomb in small packet.

In the middle of the story, it seems that Mr. Ramesh Ahuja will survive himself from law. It seems that Mr. Ahuja is still far from the boundary of the law. Pathak Sir has done everything and has not left any effort to make Mr. Ahuja character so strong. Basically, the main actor and villain of this story, both is Mr. Ramesh Ahuja. After suffering from his consequences, Mr. Ramesh Ahuja takes such steps which create his crime list too longer. He does not leave any evidence to the police so that he can be caught. Ramesh Ahuja creates instantly the checker board of perfect crime and slowly he wins this game of chess. He thought that he will survive by the same way as he survived in the case of murder of his wife. And finally, he survived himself. But there is something different was written in his fortune.

If law is not able to punish for the crime then god gave him sentence and punishment. But Ramesh Ahuja neither got punishment by law nor by god. But he got real punishment. This is the mystery point which takes you to read this novel.

It is very fine point, Pathak sir always shown the criminal punished. No matter how he tried to survive from punishment. Whether Pathak Sir gave all the cards of fortune in his hands but still there is a happy ending in respect of society. Found guilty must be punished.

“Gunah Ka Karz”- Why this title? It would be far better if you read this novel and find out the reason. There are no any loose and weak points which can be used for criticism. In some novels, the flows of story are so strong where you are not capable to find out some shortfalls. Pathak Sir maintained his grip on this story from start to finish. This is really an awesome creation of Pathak with composition of mystery, suspense, thriller and adventures. I would encourage all of you to read this novel.
