Gumraah Stays True to Being a Thriller-Drama. Review on Gumraah

The Story:

Two of Bollywood's power-packed actors, Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur come together to entertain their fans with this brilliant thriller-drama. The film revolves around a mysterious murder of a rich young man which involves two lookalike suspects. The film has many twists and turns to it which sure is enough to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Investigating officer of this murder(Mrunal Thakur) is seen trying to connect all the dots that at first look pretty impossible and confusing. The storyline has a good build-up to it and keeps one guessing what is going to happen next.

The Review:

Currently, Bollywood is on a Hindi remake spree and so far things have been working in their favor. Gumraah is an adaptation of the Tamil film, Thadam. Filmmaker Vardhan Ketkar tries his best to stay true to the storyline and give the audience a nail-biting thriller drama. The film revolves around two people who look alike and are prime suspects in a mysterious murder. The investigation officer(Mrunal Thakur) is the one in charge of this case and is already seen making progress after the arrest of these two suspects. The two look-alikes, played by Aditya Roy Kapur are the main characters of this film that build up the high-intensity drama and confusion related to the murder.

Another senior police officer involved in the case, played by Ronit Roy showcases an intense character in the film. It gives the film much-needed drama and creates some great build-up as well. The other characters in the film also have been very strategically handpicked by the filmmaker as they too deliver some brilliant performances throughout the film. Filmmaker Vardhan also has added some romance to the film that blends in perfectly with the storyline and the characters. The background score of the film is also really intense and gives the desired raw and thrilling feel to the audience while watching the film.

At a certain point in time, the film takes the audience into a flashback where he shifts the focus to the lives of the identical-looking man, Aditya Roy Kapur. This works best for the film as it gives the audience proper content as to where these two men come from and what was their life like before being accused of murder. On the other hand, Mrunal Thakur has come a long way since her debut in Bollywood. In the past, she has delivered some of the best performances and is known to be very versatile with the characters she portrays in her films. This film is also a great example of her acting skills and how versatile she can be on the big screen.

Gumraah at some point may seem to be a bit dragged and dry but the film has a great storyline and an ending to it. From the cinematography to every character in the film, everything looks really good and will surely entertain you in every manner. You should definitely go with an expectation that Aditya Roy Kapur will charm you once again as he always does through his movies and his personality. For me, he is the star of the film and has delivered a brilliant on-screen performance playing a double role in this thriller-drama.

What Works for the Film:

The idea of presenting Aditya Roy Kapur in a double role in itself works wonders for this film. Each character's intense and brilliant performance is one of the biggest aspects which makes this film a great watch. The direction and the cinematography are a huge plus and surely make this film shine on the silver screen in the theatres.

From Aditya Roy Kapur to Mrunal Thakur, Every actor has done great justice to their characters in the film and this is what makes this film a commercial success.
