The greatest thing to have happened since ''sliced bread''??

<b>A brief history</b>

<i>What's in a name? That we call rose by something else would smell as sweet??</i>

''Google,'' which has come to stand for epitome of excellence in search technology. ''Google'' is a play on the word ''googol,'' which is the term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeroes. Google is a site used by almost anyone and everyone. It's as needy as you need your breathing to live. (At least for me).

Google is a direct result of couple of super genius Stanford graduates/dropouts(Sergei Brin and Larry page). Google now boasts 800+ folks working with 8+% Ph.Ds and 32 language speakers amongst others. It is a devoted place for betterment of how we skim information in this Information Superhighway. Without Google, you are lost in this digital divide. If you use google, you'll be the fittest in this digital darwinistic world.

<b>Site Features</b>

· <I>Froogle</I>(From the word, frugal!!) lets you find products for sale from across the Web.

· <I>Google Answers</I> is an open forum where Researchers answer your questions for a fee.

· <I>Google Catalogs</I> is a search and browse mail order catalogs online.

· <I>Google Groups</I> is Google's usenet discussion forum where you can post and read comments in Usenet discussion forums.

· <I>Google Image Search</I> lets you do the most comprehensive image search on the web with 425 million images.

· <b><I>Google Labs</I></b> shows prototypes and projects in development by Google engineers, including: <I>Google Viewer - Google WebQuotes - Google Glossary - Google Sets - Voice Search - Keyboard Shortcuts</I>.

· <I>Google News Search</I> and browse 4,000 continuously updated news sources. - <B>This is one of the best ''news'' source on the net. I use this primarily for my information. </b>

· <I>Google Special Searches</I> lets you narrow your search to a specific topic, such as BSD, Apple, and Microsoft.

· <I>Google University Search</I> lets you narrow your search to a specific school website.

· <I>Google Web Directory</I> is a directory service for the web organized by topic into categories.

· <B><I>Google Web Search</I> - What to tell, the one which started all (At the time of writing, skims 3,083,324,652 pages)</b>

· <I>Google Wireless</I> lets you access Google's adaptable search technology from any number of handheld devices.

Google also comes with <I>Google Tools</I> which are

· Google Browser Buttons - This lets you access Google's search technology by adding our buttons to your browser's personal toolbar.

· Google in Your Language - Search in your own language..

· Google Toolbar - Plus it into your browser.

· Google Translate Tool - use it to translate text or entire web pages. (You can also find out “Do you speak French” as “Parlez Vous en Francaise” or what is the meaning of “Guten Dag” in German.

· Google Web APIs This is a tool for software developers(Geeks) to automatically query Google.

<b> Google Dance </b>

This is a tool developed by ''Non-Google'' personnel. You can use it to see results in multiple Google servers at the same time. This is a cool feature as Google sends out Robots to crawl and update. Sometimes it may be a bit slow in the main site. If you wanna see something using Google fairly quick, use this. https://google-dance.com

<B>Awards won by Google.</B>

Take a look at ''https://google.com/press/awards.html'' to see the monthly awards won by Google.

<B>Some Techniques.</B>

Do you wanna see if a MS review is a cut and past?

· Cut a complete line from the review.

· Go to Google.

· Put '''' in between the line.

· Hit search.

· Voila, if that is a plagiaristic one, you will see one or many matches.

This is how I found out many of the copycat reviews. Now you know the truth!!!

Do you wanna do a library archive like, slideshow search, got to Google viewer, https://labs.google.com/gviewer.html and try out the same. It is an excellent tool.

Do you wanna see a PDF file in your browser, click view as HTML.

<B>Final thoughts.</B>

Google.com will become something like TV or breathing for all the computer literate folks. Do not miss it for any cost. Why should Yahoo switch to google from inktomi which had an excellent search engine also. Google.com is like Amazon/EBay/Microsoft/Cisco etc. It is a clear leader and stalwart.

Usability wise it is the best site I've seen so far that is the most powerful

If you don't use google, you haven't really used internet.

I may sound a bit loose, if I were to rate it, I would give 25 stars out of 5 stars!! :)

Hope you liked the review.
