Gone With The Wind was first published in 1936. It sold over ten million copies, won the Pulitzer Prize. The story was translated into eighteen different languages and was later made into a motion picture starring Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable and Leslie Howard. The film was a great success as well. Gone With The Wind is the only published work of this great story teller - Margaret Mitchell.
The plot revolves around the life of Scarlett O'Hara, daughter of the owner of a plantation farm at Tara. At 16, when the story begins, she's used to sweep men off their feet. She is not your ''docile and perfect'' heroine. But life is not a bed of roses for Scarlett O'Hara, she suffers heartbreak, deals with changes, did things women weren't supposed to do. At 17, Scarlett becomes a widow with a small child from her first husband. After the Civil War ends, at the age of 20, Scarlett re-builds the family plantation, Tara, all on her own and takes care of her suffering father and sisters. And because of her courage and hard work, she gets back from poverty to being wealthy all over again. We travel with her, we see her transform from being a spoilt selfish girl to a grown up sensitive woman handling a plethora of responsibilities.
She loses Ashley Wilkes, the man she decided she loved.
