Gone in 60 Seconds is a great film, if you want fast cars, beautiful women and a great story line, this is the film for you.
The story follows Randolph ''Memphis'' Raines (Cage), who was the best car thief in Longbeach. His younger brother Kip grows up idealizing his brother, and then he gets involved himself. Kip takes a job, a boost, this means that he is given a list of the best cars out there and he has a certain amount of time to steal them all. The bloke that give him he job is Ramon Callitri is a British thief who is fleeing the law in Britain because of his dealings and has come to Longbeach to do 'business'. The job, steal 50 cars from the Longbeach area, and deliver them to him.
Half way through the job Kip messes up, and is followed back to the warehouse (were the cars are to be collected.) The police burst in and impound the cars, but Kip and his mated escape. Callitri is not a happy camper; he takes Kip hostage and sends for Memphis.
Memphis had long given up the 'art' of stealing cars, and lives the quiet live. Memphis tells him that either, he and his brother die or he finishes the job that his baby bro started.
He obviously accepts, and now had three days to find the cars on the list. He finds assembles his old team, well what he can of it, and he's off. That’s not all the police are on to what they are doing, and are not that happy.
Of course not everything goes sweetly but they mage to get 49 out of the 50 cars on the lost and deliver them to Callitri. One is left and Memphis had only an hour to get it.
The last car is by the best in the film. It's a 1967 Shelby GT 500 Ford Mustang. Not just that but every time he has tried to steal this car something has gone wrong. He calls it his 'Unicorn' a creature that is impossible to capture.
He steals and everything is going sweetly for about...ummm...a minute. Then comes the trouble, not much though, just the police some roadblocks and a helicopter. I will NOT tell you what happens, I think that I have given enough away already.
The actor is this film is first rate. Nicholas Cage is outstanding, and so is Vinny Jones, although he doesn't say that much, in fact not much at all. There are other actors and not much to say about them, so I won't.
There are a few amazing action sequences in this film, when Cage is driving down a dry riverbed to name just one. Fantastic.
This is a first rate film!
