For the past few days I have read quite a few thrillers, but was getting tired of the normal serial killers, FBI agents, psycholigical profilers that are a ''must'' in most of the.
Then I read about this writer Harlan Coben. I don't know if he is famous but he definitely isn't among the names like Dan Brown, James Patterson, Jefferey Deaver. But i still decided to pick up his book Gone For Good and was so plesantly surprised with what I found.
I started reading the book and Saturday and did not put it down till I finished it.
This is a story of Will Klein, who hero worshipped his elder brother. But eleven years ago his brother is charged with raping and murdering Will's ex girlfriend and he disappears not to heard of again.
In the present, the woman Will loves one night just goes away with a one line note to him, thus begins Will's search for the truth.
The story moves smoothly between flash backs and the present and is so fast paced that there is not one dull moment.
What I loved about the book is that there is no extra hype added to make it a thriller. It has no blood scenes, no FBI shoot outs, not even a cop who is the hero of the book.
It is the story of an ordinary man putting the pieces of puzzle together one by one.
The other good thing about the book is that it mixes feelings, emotions into the plot of the book. There are no seperate chapters, parts that talk exclusively about emotions (like in so many Alex Cross books).
Its good to see flashes of emotion woven so well into the plot. But the best part of the book is that it has the element of surprise till the last page.
When u reach the last 10 pages u feel ''OK that's it'' but no, there is more and it ends only with the last word in the book.
For all who love to read a good suspense book do try this one. I surely am addicted to this writer and will find out his next book ASAP: I am curious... will he live up to my expectations???
