My husband had been craving Paranthas for a quite sometime, so, we thought we'd try out the "Golmaal Paratha" outlet in Jayanagar yesterday. We reached there at about 9:30 PM in the night and it was open for business.
The Order:
1 - Onion Parantha
2 - All Green Mix Parantha(Palak, Methi, Pudina)
The food took about 7-10 minutes to arrive which is pretty fast by Indian standards.
The rectangular thali looked huge and a 10-12 inch diameter parantha was served with Curd, Chole, Tomato Chutney, mint Chutney, Pickle and Salad(onion+ spiced green chilli). So Far, So good.
Lets Dig in:
the first bite itself was dissappointing. I ate the All green mix Parantha first. It was steaming hot, yet could not hide the excess salt in the paratha. If teamed with the curd it was still ok.
The onion paratha was better than all the All Green mix Paratha, yet was extremely spicy and couldnot be had with anything other than the curd. I wished I had tried one of the safer aaloo or Gobhi varieties instead of this. I am not really sure which, but one of the parathas had some dirt particles that grated against my teeth now and then. but it was intermittent, so deicded not to call the waiter. The waiter arrived some time kater to ask if we needed more curd/chole/chutney.
We asked for some more curd which he promptly got and also put in front of the us Ganesh Habba Prasad. We decided silently at that time that we would not complain about the food.
The Prices
For us, the price came to around 200 rs for 2 people so its decently priced for a place like bangalore. We paid and left a small tip and took the prasad with us. The prasad was the best part.
All in All, Golmaal parantha has a street food ambience which is nice and casual. Its decently priced and does home delivery too. But, the food was below satisfactory(Jayanagar Branch). Maybe the more popukar varities like Gobhi methi Paratha, Aloo Gobhi paratha, Cheese parathas are better value for money. But simple(read healthy also) Onion and greens failed to hit the mark.
