How significant is a conversation? Think about it. We all have met different people in our lives so far & have had conversations on various topics with them, some being interesting & some boring to death.
Mostly people prefer to talk to people of their age because it would be easy for both to be on the same wave length resulting in fruitful discussion or should I say conversation. Or rather we would prefer to have conversation with people from the similar field or network, so that we all can speak the same language to make an effective conversation. Did anytime any MSian mentioned his meeting with Orkut or Twitterian as a meet?
Have you ever spoken to a person who is at least three times older then you? How long did that conversation last? Do you remember anything of what you spoke with him/her? Was it worth it?
Scott Adams' book God's Debris is a thought experiment in form of a fictional story .With this book the writer takes the reader to a journey that won't please everyone & Scott Adams wasn't unaware of it. That's why the introduction part of the book says, "the target audience for God's Debris is people who enjoy having their brains spun around inside their skulls. After a certain age most people are uncomfortable with new ideas. That certain age varies by person, but if you are over 55 (mentally) you probably won't enjoy this thought experiment. If you are 80 going on 35, you might like it. If you are 23 your odds for liking it are very good."
Scott Adams narrates the story of a delivery man who is doing his job by delivering a scruffy package to an old man. In today's world I guess everyone receives at least 1 package by courier every month & the only conversation we have with the delivery boy is, him instructing or requesting us by saying, "sign on this line please".
But the receiver of this scruffy package, who also happens to be the central character of this book is a different kind of man, who starts the conversation with the delivery man by saying, "I have been expecting you" & asks him to sign the receipt of the package as received because according to the old man, the actual receiver of the package was the delivery man.
With this starts the unique, very interesting, very thought provoking, shattering & never heard of kind of conversation between the two.
The old man whose name is AVATAR has a view about God that most of us never heard before, hence the book might offend a certain group of people due to the old man's untraditional view of God. But then his views are so convincing that it engrosses you the moment he begins speaking. His questions, his answers, his counter questions, his explanations will leave you stunned.
Have you ever bothered to know what is free will (both yours & God's)? Has any body asked you about God's consciousness, God's Debris, God's Motivation, Physics of God Dust, Light, Will Power, etc? Or have you asked anyone about this? Would it interest you if someone was telling you everything that he thinks is correct about these issues?
Ladies & gentlemen, the author Scott Adams deserves all the praise in this world for having thought of this wonderful idea & have then dared to put it in print for all of us to read. Even though whatever is said in the book comes from the central character but we all know it is the writer who created those magical words.
Take an example, the delivery man trying to justify one of his question about religion by saying, "may be the reason we respect other religions is that they all have a core set of beliefs in common. They only differ in the details".
The old man's reaction was, "Jews & Muslims believe that Christ isn't the son of God. If they are right, then Christians are mistaken about the core of their religion. And if the Jews or the Christians or the Muslims have the right religion, then the Hindus & Buddhists who believe in reincarnation are wrong. Would you call those details?"
This is such a book that I believe every one should read but still people who do not wish to read or hear any thing that can be taken as offensive against the God, they should not read this book as they won't be able to find themselves on the wavelength of the author, hence difference of opinions will be created.
That reminds me of an incident that happened few months before the Babri Mosque was demolished. I was at my hometown & was having a conversation with a friend of mine, who was in favour of the political party's stand for the demolition. We had difference of opinions, which resulted in break of our relation.. He never spoke to me after that day. Now he has shifted to some other place. The reason was simple yet so complicated, he spoke about the place where Lord Ram was born & the temple must be built, where as I was talking about the principles set by Lord Ram, which were completely misunderstood by the misguided youth.
I have read the book three times and I still want to read it again and again.
