Google has done what it does best....again. This time in the form of an email client called Gmail, still in the beta stage.
The best thing about gmail is , quite right, the storage space. A mind blowing 2500+ megabytes of storage space and they say it is till counting !!! Remember, a siple text mail from your friend will take up only a few kilobytes or more at the maximum, a graphically high content will take upto, what say, one mb at minimum? So, with over 2gb of space, I dont think even a lifetime will be enough to fill up that space. ( Even if we threw in the junk in my cupboard it wont be enough, haha )
Back to business, gmail also state that you dont need to delete any of ur mail with such a storage capacity at your disposal, and who will. This of course, presents the problem of searching and sifting through ur mail. Have no fear ! Google is here......i think there...!!!
Gmail uses the same (powerful) google engine to search through ur collection of junk....er...i mean...mail. Gmail also records every mail between u and say, a particular friend, in a conversational pattern, with the sent mail on top, and your reply below it and so on. Very nice indeed, especially when u want to see which one of started the fight!!!
Gmail supports a host of languages, with our national language being one of them, NEAT !!! It also supports a variety of browsers, though a few only supported in HTML format, a pity. That shudnt be a problem for u anyway.
U can also group a set of conversational emails under a label, such as movies, if the conversation relates to the movies u and ur friend wanted to see, be it the occational tear jerker or the hilarious 'laugh ur head off' stint!!
Next, using gmail. The first thing u will notice when u access the inbox, is the neat and simple layout, the light blue colours not hindering this aspect. Gmail, (as are all others) are also working on spam, as spam changes its form on a continuous basis. U get to help them by selecting the mail which u believe is spam and clicking on the This is spam button. The filter is a very useful feature indeed, with filtering criteria being on the words that a mail has and which it doesnt. Very thoughtful indeed.
The various mail options such as inbox, drafts, sent, spam and trash are present on the left with the inbox being the default option when u log in. Spam messages will be automatically stored in the spam folder with both the contents of spam and trash folders being automatically removed after 30 days from when they have been received. Mark a read mail in ur inbox as unread, and it will show up as a new mail. Very innovative. This is because, since gmail shows us only 25 mails per page, lets say u have marked mail number 56 as unread and it is not sown on the first page, gmail will still show u u have a new mail, just in case u forget to read it again.
The best thing is, gmail is free. But it is not offered for everyone, like I said it is still in the testing stage with more features such as autosave being added everyday. One thing I wud wish is that, if the forward mail option had a list of contacts on the right side, with u being to tick the contacts to whom u want to send that mail to. But gmail ''tries'' to overcome this minor drawback with a auto fill in feature. Fill in the first two letters of the name of ur contact, and the rest appears automatically.
Again, gmail aint free with u needing to have an invite from a gmail user.
In the rare case that u havent got a gmail account and u need one, send me a mail and I will send u an invitation to join the gmail family.
