When I was first introduced to internet at 2000 then having an email account was something like a tech and computer savvy symbol. So one of the very first things I did at the internet was to create an email account. At that time in Kolkata Caltiger, a free ISP was very popular and I opened my first email account there, and proudly displayed my email id. Though there was almost nobody who could mail me at that time. But I used to daily check my mail box. Anyway then I moved to VSNL as my new ISP provider and get my second email id. I used that account for a long time. Then BSNL brought account free dial up internet and I shifted to that plan. My VSNL account lapsed. Then I opened my third account in Yahoo. (I still occasionally use this account and it was there in my first CV). At that time I came to know about the email client s/w and knew POP3, Incredimail (I beautiful email client) etc. At that time Yahoo provided free POP3 access. So Yahoo became my main email account.

Gradually as I became more experienced with the internet I felt for another account without revealing my identity. So I opened my 4th account also in Yahoo. (I still use this for the same purpose). Suddenly yahoo stopped its free POP3 access and hence my Incredimail became useless. I was looking for a free POP3 email account provider. My search stopped at bonbon.net. My 5th email account with Bonbon created a lot of wave within my college friend circle and within 1 month, I was popularly known as Bonbon and some friend also opened their account in Bonbon. Within 6 month I realized that Bonbon was not a very reliable service. So again I was looking for my 6th email. It was Lycosasia.com. It was good and very simple with decent service. I was happy but again suddenly Lycosasia stopped its email service. So I was looking for another service provider compatible with my Incredimail. At that time Incredimail lunched its new version that was compatible with Hotmail. Obviously Hotmail was my target. I tried for a suitable username in Hotmail but nothing worked. When I was almost frustrated with all my choices then in my computer a song (love is an eight lettered word) from Anjan Datta (A famous Bengali Singer, Director, Actor) was playing and the song was so good that instantly I created my 7th account as loveisan8letteredword@hotmail.com.

I opened my Mouthshut account with that ID and still that hotmail ID exists (for working with Microsoft service). At that time Gmail started its email service but it was only by invitation. So having a Gmail account was the ultimate at that time. With Gmail one can put dot (.) in the ID and it looked so official. Anyway I got my 8th mail id from my office. Within 1 year I got my 9th account with Google and created my fake official looking id with dot(.).

After Gmail I have not created any more ID for the last 2.5 years. Basically it serves my all needs. It is compatible with Incredimail (now a days I don't use it) and other email client, very simple, very very fast, Huge storage space, new innovative features, organizing the mails are very easy. Superb spam protection. Just fabulous. Basically in all the Google products you will find that they are simple but do their jobs effectively and efficiently. And above all it is the most reliable service.

This is my story with the email accounts and my searching for a best email id stops here at GMAIL.

My wife has an account with Ymail (Yahoo’s new mail service). When we filled up a form with Ymail we found latter that when it was copied to the system they make it Gmail instead of Ymail.
