Travelling in Mumbai - Catch22

A bus driver trying to take a right and a taxi wala trying to take a left and a train of rickshaws trying to cross the intersection formed by the bus and the taxi. The mammoth egos of taxi and bus driver of course prevents either of them from backing up. All that happens is horns start blazing and tempers start rising. Autowalas not going to the regular queue auto stand because of the knee deep water accumulated there. policewalas preventing people to board autos from the off queue areas because the queue will not have sufficient autos in that case. where do people take the autos form then ? Auntyjee standing and blocking half of the door of local coz she wants to get down at the next stop. but at this stop... people inside trying to get out and people outside trying to get in form the same half door within half a minute... Does this sound like a regular morning to you ? You must be the super human breed of mumbaikar then . Although mumbai dwellers swear by the public transport of mumbai, there are times when I wonder if this is the best connected in India then... You have trains that move amazingly fast but no doors... and the no of accidents happening daily... people falling off the trains... You have buses that go to every part of the city but do you have place to stand/sit in them ? You have highways but the so you have traffic jams and also pollution. I never carry a book or a walkman while traveling in locals. Because the I have the best entertainment for free. I always enjoy the fights happening in the ladies compartment. it has rarely happened that I have traveled in a local and not witnessed a fight. I don't know how women expect to travel on crowded trains and not even touch anyone ? One good thing about traveling in mumbai is that you can move across the city fast even though you may not have a car. Probably the only city where the rich and the poor move across at same speeds.
