A Sequel to the review ''Call centres! A fad !!!!!

The views expressed in my previous review about the health hazards caused due to working in call centres has strengthened further due to the experience of a person known to me.

This is an experience of a friend of mine who has been in this particular profession since the past 2 years. This person had to accomodate himself near his work place as it would have been cumbersome to travel to and fro from his residence, firstly due to the distance and secondly because his firm was giving only the facility of drop and not pick-up to his work place. Hence he had to depend for the daily requirement of all the meals on the company canteen, which proved very costly for him. The canteen food is just horrible and it is ridiculous that a high profile company is not able to provide hygienic food to its employees while they are expected to work at odd hours and obviously they cannot carry home food.

He contracted amoebic infection, which also infected his lever giving rise to an abscess. He had to be hospitalized for a fortnight and it costed him roughly around Rs. 60, 000. And the amount of physical torture and pain he underwent cannot be expressed in words. Maybe many others would have faced similar stomach related problems but would have gone unnoticed. The gist of the whole thing is that only heavy pay packets are not enough, the health of the employees should be safeguarded.
