FROM THE MOUTH OF A WAITRESS

I had been a fine dinning waitress in Las Vegas for about ten years.  I have seen almost everything, and what I had not seen I heard about.

My husband and I one night went out to eat with some friends.  At the end of the meal when it was time to tip the waitress, our friends only put down 5.00$ for a 100.00$ meal.  I ask my friend what the problem was.  She said, 'The drinks took forever and so did the food.'

This is how I replied, 'Look around the room is there an empty table?'  She looked around, the place was packed with a waiting list.  'The waitress did get us our drinks, and was your food hot?  Was it right?'  She nodded.  'The place is busy, how long it takes to get our food isn't her fault, the cooks might be behind.'  Needless to say they left 20.00$.

There are several things to consider when tipping, Was your food hot?  Did they get the order right?  How busy are they?  If you are ordering a beer or a glass of wine, more then likely the waitress has to go to a bar for it.  If it takes a while the bartender might be busy too.

I will admit I have gone into empty dinning rooms and have gotten bad service, now that is a reason for no tip.

One last note.  Don't going into a restaurant saying, 'I have 45 minutes.'  Go to Burger King for fast.  When going to a restaurant kick back and enjoy.
