Geetha Cafe, as it is popularly known amongst oldies is at Pondy Bazaar, Chennai. It is a very old restaurant and for whoever comes to Chennai in good old 70s and 80s, Geetha Cafe used to be a place where homely and healthy food was always available. This piece of information came from my father.
In the modern world, it seems to have lost the name and honour it used to have then, but the taste and it's own customer base is forever present. This is not a place which has a great ambience and do not expect Candle light Romantic dinners here. This is a place known for it's food and what a variety does it offer for vegetarians. Strict Non-vegans stay away please.
I used to fancy my breakfast and at times take parcel for my family from Geetha Cafe and it used to satisfy the appetite and range of food that my family would expect to. My father usually settles for Idlis or Idiyappam with Coconut Milk or Kurma. My sister would usually prefer either Aappam with Coconut Milk or Onion / Cashewnut Rava Dosa. My mom would be happy with Poori or Ghee Masala Dosa and I would relish the Pongal at Geetha Cafe itself. I also include one Big Vada each for all of us. All of these dishes would be great in taste. The quantity of the side dishes which they give for parcel is low for a stumptous eater. I hence, pay additionally to get more Coconut Milk.
I have not had food in the afternoons or evenings at this place, but going by the standard which they set in the mornings, this should also be good.
It is worth every penny that you pay, since this is a very very affordable place to eat. You can never burn your pockets eating at Geetha's Cafe.
