Gator ! whats it ?

Its a software which remembers all your details(for filling forms) so that next time when you want to fill some form then no need to write all the stuff again.

// oh really so cool software !!!

wanna know what is Gator really ???

ITS A SPYWARE...i does help you to fill the form but its main job is to keep track of what you are doing and which sites you are browsing and it sends report to its company's site and it displays pop-up ads according to that...(like if you go to some porn sites daily then it will display porn banner any time of the day ;)... u got my point right ?? ) and they even spam you...will mail you all their advertising offers...

found following stuff from some site on the net :

Gator is a software product that can automatically fill in passwords and other form-elements on Web pages. But its main purpose is to load an advertising spyware module called OfferCompanion, which displays pop-up ads when visiting some Web sites. Gator boasts that since it's software is always running, it can spam users with ''Special Offers'' and other ads anywhere they go--even competitors' sites--with remarkable targeting capabilities, since it can spy on what sites the user is visiting.

one example here : (took from another site)

A consumer goes to 1800flowers.com to buy a bouquet. Gator, which has been sitting resident in his system tray, slides in a small ''offer companion'' box from off-screen, offering $10 off flowers and gifts at FTD.com. If the user doesn't click on the box after a few seconds, the companion box enlarges, provides offer details, and allows the user to choose between clicking on the offer or closing the box. He can also check a box so that Gator never shows him that particular ad again.

so we can call Gator as Trojan which your anti-virus cannot detect but firewall warns about it...so if you want others to know your private details and like spam then pls use gator (i know no one is gonna use it)

// oh I have installed it and now how to remove it...

i think uninstallation is not gonna help this time...these kind of spyware remains in Registry..so u will have to remove it from registry...

// how to do it ?

use any softwares like RegCleaner and search for the string gator...and remove those registry keys...

OR

there is a better way use Ad-Aware 6. This software detects all spyware on your machine and u can delete it...i recommend that scan your pc with Ad-Aware once (even if you havent installed gator) I m sure that there will be couple of more hidden spyware in ur machine (like if you are Win XP user then you will find one Microsoft's Spyware..i think name is alexia or something)

so thats it guys..

moral of the story is Dont ever use Gator :)
