Sky is the Limit. Review on Gardish

Before I begin my review let me commence by saying that I am a HUGE Jackie Shroff fan. This was something that started around mid 80s where my only criteria was ''The more the hero does dishum dishum, the cooler he is''. My opinion about movies came of age alongwith Jackie's constant improvisation.

Gardish which means ''Sky'' starts of with Amrish Puri who plays a Constable ''Kashinath Purushottam Sathe'' whose only dream is to see his son ''Shiva'' played by Jackie as a Police Inspector and salute him before he retires. Things take a tide when Amrish gets in trouble for protecting the law by going against an influential politian's son and is transferred to a hostile police station in Mumbai aptly named as ''Kala Chowk''.

Jackie who is getting ready to join the police force gets entangled between law when he beats the hell out of a local hoodlum to protect his father. Things take further turn and ''somehow'' Jackie keeps getting in trouble and that makes his relationship with his father ''sour''. In the end, to protect his daughter, Amrish orders Jackie to shed all the ''law and order'' to eliminate ''Social Evil'' and jackie ends up killing the bad guy.

Ok, I might have done a bad job of portraying a very good movie, but it's an excellent movie. Extremely good when it comes to technical aspect (Camera, Editing, Sound, Art, Action) this movie brought together Jackie and Priyadarshan and it's a combination I am dying to see in future. Gardish is a remake of a Malayalam hit ''Kireedam'' which was also a great movie, comparing the two isn't fair since they are treated completely differently keeping the audience in mind. Jackie gives his best performance in a role that's as meaty as it can get.

Amrish proves he's probably the only one who could have pulled off this. Mukesh Rishi as ''Billa Jilani'' succeeds to create some sense of intimidation. Annu Kapoor deserves a special mention in this movie, he played a person who runs this racket of ''Beggars'' that are educated and unemployed, I remember this caused lot of troubles with the real beggars of Mumbai. Iswarya (Tamil) was ok in a small role that she was offered.

Although Pancham Da's music in this movie was never appreciated, I do like most of the songs my favorites being ''Hum Na Samjhe The'' and ''Yeh Mera Dil''. Dont expect this movie blow your mind away but if you are looking for a decent hindi movie with strong performances and great technical aspects, Gardish is the one.
