Simply stunning. Review on Gangster

Have you ever felt like being transported into a completely strange but blissful world watching a film? Gangster does that to you. For two-and-half hours, your existence takes a brand new form. In a lifetime, comes a movie, which extinguishes the distance between the viewer and the characters. You cannot call this kind of cinema by a name; the experience is beyond descriptions.

Anuraag Basu has adopted an interesting way of telling the story, using technology to its best. Daya (Shiney Ahuja) is a gangster, who is in love with Simran (Kangana Ranaut). Daya’s life forces him to run places and hide from the police, as Simran staying in Seoul spends time waiting for him to be happily married ever after. Destiny has something else in store and Akash (Emraan Hashmi) enters her life, loves her and wants to marry her. Before you start thinking it is yet another extra-marital affair being churned out by the Bhatts, let me clarify, you are in for some great surprises. Simply putting, expect the unexpected.

Shiney Ahuja finally arrives after his so called debuts in lost movies like Karam, Hazaaron Khwashien Aisi and Kal. There are not many dialogues for him, but his emotional chaos and suffering comes on his face naturally. He has been left to emote though his eyes and expressions, and his performance will take even the greatest actors of all time by surprise. Now coming to the powerhouse of talent, the strongest pillar of Gangster, Kangana! I dare not say it’s a debut for her. Her presence ignites the screen, makes you cry, makes you laugh; you can literally feel the uncertain thoughts of her confused soul. You’ll sympathize with her, you’ll love her, and you’ll hate her.

We better start taking Emraan Hashmi seriously. Just because he gets to kiss all the bombshells, we can’t ignore his acting skills. With Gangster, you see a different Hashmi; yes he kisses Kangana. His performance and dialogue delivery in the press conference scene is something to watch. Well, that’s for the actors. Pritam’s music puts him in the top slot with all the biggies. It’s simply awesome. The locales of Seoul add that refreshing factor to the visuals, the camerawork is brilliant. But the most interesting part that complements Anuraag’s treatment of the story is the editing. Sleek and tight, it maintains a uniform pace throughout never losing the control. The screenplay is also by Anuraag, which is just perfect and flawless.

My advice to you would be simple. Go buy a ticket now, keep an open mind, don’t be critical and give in to Gangster. Trust me, you’ll cherish those two-and-half hours for your entire lifetime.
