We in India are used to waiting for English movies to take eons to reach our theatres, and so by the time a movie raches us the hype surrounding has died down and many have forgotten what the movie was about.

Being a student however made it compulsory for me to see anything that is released on the big screen :) and I have to honestly say that I was not disappointed.

The cast and crew for the movie are :

Director: The Hughes Brothers

Writers: Terry Hayes, Rafael Yglesias

Producers: Don Murphy, Jane Hamsher, Kevin Messick

Actors: Johnny Depp as Fred Abberline

Heather Graham as Mary Kelly

Robbie Coltrane as Peter Godley

Genre: Thriller

Plot:

In 1888 there were a series of five murders which shook the world for their sheer brutality. The were carried by the infamous 'Jack the Ripper' whose identity was never found. In this engrossing movie a new twist to the age old mystery has been described.

Critique:

Brilliant. A dark & ugly movie that binds you to your seat. You come out shaking your head in complete awe and have to say 'wow'. It's very gruesome and bloody and morbid and creepy and black as hell and the name 'From Hell' is most apt.

The acting of Jonny Depp as Inspector Abberline was awesome and it reaffirmed to me the fact that he is possibly one of the most talented actors Hollywood had today. All actors are fitted into the movie beautifully and one does not feel that there was any useless characters that could have been cut out. The end truly does surprise you, and leaves one quite satisfied as its not the expected conclusion.

The sets of late 19th century London are quite brilliant and the atmosphere built up is so tense that one could almost cut it. The camera manship was of very good quality.

Conclusion:

Simply a very satisfying watch and one of the truly A grade movie that I have seen this year.
