Being a part of Fortune Group of Hotels, I expected Valley View International located in Manipal to be a treat since it is said to be a star-rated hotel. The truth is for the facility and service it is highly overpriced.
The buffet breakfast and lunch at Cosmo Cafe is mediocre at best. There is a lack of variety and some items are inedible.
We had also booked Chaitya Hall(one of their air-conditioned halls) for a college function with a banquet dinner. They charged Rs. 600 per plate for a minimum of 150 guests which included the hall charges, and dinner(1 salad, 2 veg dishes, 1 non-veg dish, some type of rice and rotis). The dishes were a sorry excuse. The veg dish was bland and funny tasting, the non-veg dish did not contain sufficient meat pieces, the rice was under-cooked and the roti could have been used as a frisbee.
The only positive is that the staff is helpful(as they are the students studying in WGSHA who prepare and serve the meal). Due to lack of competition and a dearth of good hotels, Valley View International has taken its customers for granted. They are misusing the name of Fortune Group of Hotels. However, there is hope with the arrival of a competitor, Country Inn & Suites by Carlson Group located near Rajathadri, Manipal on End Point Road.
