This weekend too was a longish one so I decided on a book to read. I was immediate on Flying High because it was a memoir from a man I did not want to miss.

When one is in this part of the world Air Asia is significant in one’s lives. Tony has taken it to dizzying heights. Flying High is a splendid autobiography of Tony Fernandes - the founder of Air Asia.

In the book, Tony talks about his early life and how he grew up at Epsom UK during his initial years, and how he fared well at Boarding School away from his parents. It is a surprise to see his pictures during those initial years, where he was young and a part of all the sports teams and up and sprightly.

He always missed his family. And always felt the need for a low-cost airline during his schooling years because he was unable to come to his home, Malaysia, due to the high airline fares.

From the book, you come to know that he is one of those who never liked the mundane ways of life, but, always sought thrill and adventure. How he became an accountant, didn’t like the job and found his way up the music industry. And how the idea to start a low-cost airline ultimately takes shape after knowledge about low-cost airline in Europe. The book is there to read all the details and his final achievement in making the Air Asia a success.

But I never knew some things. He is a fun filled personality and was fit and straight during the period before he became old enough. He speaks his mind in the book with due regards to the families who lost loved ones during the tragedy.

He always set higher goals and his vision must be accompanied by an idea. Always going bolder by the day, he always looks farther than others and converts them through his PR achievements and fun filled hard work.

He believes in a flat structure where every employee can reach him without much layers to bother, and says, one must adapt to changes fast in this fast-changing world.

He had his bad times but with care and a cautious approach he overcame the odds and became a national hero.

But one must know one thing that he had a start and good background. But to make it to the fanfare that he has through formula ones and QPR, one needs immense self-confidence and the will to go higher which he always shows that he possesses.

In the end, when I find as an electrical engineer that I think twice to shift from an issue on a transformer to the UPS, his praise is never undone when he belonging to a music industry starts an airline, surprisingly which he bought for one dollar.
