Powerful voice!
Aug 22, 2006 08:39 PM 4778 Views

I’ve always admired Sukhwinder Singh’s voice, ever since I heard Chal Chaiya Chaiya while watching Dil Se about eight years ago. To me I think he is one of the most under-rated singers, as much as a non-Sonu fan would think that Sonu Nigam is over-rated. His voice is one of the most powerful voices in the industry and you just can’t help but be amazed. He won’t sound great singing a slow love song like Suraj Hua Maddham but when he sings something like Chal Chaiya Chaiya, he manages to make it into a superb smash-hit. Here are my picks; they are a bit recent but I don’t have any of his older songs.

Chal Chaiya Chaiya(Dil Se)

This is the only song from the 90s that I have of Sukhwinder Singh’s. What can I say here? I think this song is simply superb; composed by musical genius A.R. Rahman and sung by Sukhwinder Singh. Who says it is only A.R. Rahman and Sonu Nigam who create magic when they come together? Because this song is A.R. Rahman and Sukhwinder Singh coming together to create magic.

I could describe this song as infectious, because everyone loves it and every time I hear it I feel like singing along. Definitely his best.

Kardoon Kamal(Mujhse Shaadi Karoge)

Looking for another powerful Sukhwinder Singh number? Well, here it is. This song brings out his voice wonderfully. It is along the same lines as Chal Chaiya Chaiya as both songs are peppy, and brings out Sukhwinder Singh’s voice wonderfully. But all I can say is that this is a powerful number

Layi Vee Na Gayi(Chalte Chalte)

Ok well maybe he sounds good singing slow songs, but this is not a romantic song neither is it a love song. It is a song of heart-break, pain and loneliness and Sukhwinder Singh is able to bring out the feelings SRK in the film. Listening to this song and watching the movie, you just can’t help but cry watching SRK crying.

I have to admit I didn’t like this song when I first heard it; I guess it just grew on me.

Woh Kisna Hai(Kisna)

I totally absolutely hated this song when it came out; I detested it. Thanks to dance practice I now like this song but would never love it. I also realized that it is one of Sukhwinder Singh’s better performances.

This song, well you can’t call it a bhajan, but it is a song dedicated to Radha-Krishna. And as Krishna Janam has just passed I am sure this was a choice selection for some of you.

Phir Raath Kati(Paheli)

Some of you would wonder if I’m crazy putting this song here but I guess I love it and it is one his better songs. A bit wild yes, but it is still good. You have to admit he sounds good and sings the song with the ummm zeal it deserves making it enjoyable.

Some other enjoyable songs of Sukhwinder Singh’s:

Dola Aayo Re(Humko Tumse Pyar Hai) – am absolutely, totally tired of hearing this song but he sang well.

Ishq Na Ishq Ho(Dosti)- a bit long but it is enjoyable and he did a marvelous job.
