It was high time that I write a review of Akshay Kumar's top 10 movies (in my opinion).. Akshay Kumar has been my favourite since I saw "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast" *from Mohrain 1993... *Yup... I had only seen the song... Had not seen a single movie of him but became his fan instantly on seeing this song.. His attire, dance, looks.... Wow!! It was not until 2 years later that I actually saw his first movie which coincidentally happened to beMohra!!

Here I must thank my friend who had promised me that he would surely let me watch Akki's movie (any movie) at his place when it comes on cable (I didnt have cable then)... Akki has seen lots of highs and lows since then... The lows being the lean period in the later 90s (precisely 97-98) when all his films bombed left, right and centre at the box-office...

Films like Insaaf- The Final Justice, Sapoot, Barood, Daava, Zulmi, International Khiladi, Aarzoo... The list is quite long... And I was deeply unhappy... Then, the turnaround... Tanuja Chandra'sSangharsh... The film didnt set the boxoffice on fire but it did showcase his acting capabilities... Then, came Suneel Darshan's Jaanwar.. This film had quite an emotional role for him and worked at the box-office... From then on, Akki's career has been on the up....

These days, all his movies work... And work big time... Akki also succeeded in giving his first blockbuster- Welcome... His latest superhit is Singh Is Kinng... And his upcoming movies are also sure to set the boxoffice on fire-- Chandni Chowk to China, Blue, Kambakth Ishq... What a comeback... Hats off to all his hard work.. With no Godfathers in the industry, he has achieved all this by sheer hard work and dedication...

Anyways, now coming to the topic.. My top ten favourites include---

1.Dosti- Friends Forever (Director- Suneel Darshan, Music Directors- Nadeem-Shravan)----Awesome performance of a lifetime.. I dont think Akki can outmatch this performance ever.... Was brilliant in every frame.. Emotions came naturally to him.. It had to be a superlative performance considering the story... And Akki delivered.. Special mention of Bobby Deol who rocked too...

  1. Jaanwar (Director- Suneel Darshan, Music Directors- Anand-Milind)---Superb performance... The transformation from a hardcore criminal to a humble blacksmith who would do anything for his adopted child was believable and splendidly done by Akki...

  2. Bewafaa(Director- Dharmesh Darshan, Music Directors- Nadeem-Shravan)---He dazzled in a romantic role... Was outstanding in a role which required him to lose the heroine... Just see his expressions in "Woh Bewafaa Hai*".. Brilliant!! In one scene, hes sad and in the next, his anger & regret are expressed.. Awesome!!

  3. Dhadkan (Director- Dharmesh Darshan, Music Directors- Nadeem-Shravan)---This movie put aside all doubts about Akki's ability to carry off a romantic role.... Amazing performance as a quiet, obedient, caring and loving step-son, step-bro and husband!! This role was unlike anything that he had done in the past but the conviction with which he carried off this one was amazing...

  4. Namastey London(Director- Vipul Shah, Music Director- Himesh Reshammiya)---Again, a romantic role.... Brilliantly portrayed comedy and emotions...Must see movie.. And hello.. To all those who say Kats had a better role, ROFL... Oh plz!!

  5. Deewane Huey Paagal(Director- Vikram Bhatt, Music Director- Anu Malik)--- InDosti-FriendsForever, Akki was at his peak in emoting... I think Akki reached the zenith of comedy with this one!! Some really funny dialogues helped... *"Tu Andha Hai.. Woh Langda Nahi Hai..." And just see the way he says "How the hell did u know that?" to Rimi.. Is there anything funny in this line?? No!! But hello.. Its Akki.. Bet u will laugh a lot on that one!

  6. Sangharsh (Director- Tanuja Chandra, Music Directors- Jatin-Lalit)--- A power-packed performance as a criminal/ professor... This film made critics notice his sheer acting brilliance... Looked awesome with a small moustache... He he...

  7. Khakee (Director- Rajkumar Santoshi, Music Director- Ram Sampat)---Outshone Mr. Bachchan in this one... Not a mean achievement! In all his confrontation scenes, he shone!! Comedy, action, drama, romance, emotion.. This one had Akki doing all the things with utmost ease!

  8. Ek Rishtaa- The Bond Of Love (Director- Suneel Darshan, Music Directors- Nadeem-Shravan)--- I love this movie!! Akki was paired with the Big B for the 1st time and man, he was splendid!! Torn between his love for his wife and his family, this was Akki indeed at his best!!

  9. Khiladi/ Aitraaz/ Andaaz/ Jaan e Mann/ Ajnabee (in no specific order)--- Khiladi(Directors- Abbas-Mustan, Music Directors- Jatin-Lalit)was the movie which brought Akki into the limelight.. Superb thriller backed by some wonderful action sequences...

Aitraaz (Director- Abbas-Mustan, Music Director- Himesh Reshammiya)was a totally new and an unusual role.. A man being sexually harassed by a woman... And what a performance by Akki.. Totally convincing.. U could feel for him!!

Andaaz(Director- Raj Kanwar, Music Directors- Nadeem-Shravan)was a typical love triangle. But I have always loved Akki in romantic roles and this was a good movie with a power-packed performance by Akki supported by some wonderful songs by Nadeem-Shravan...

Jaan E Mann(Director- Shirish Kunder, Music Director- Anu Malik)was again an unique role...Akki played Agastya Rao... A wowsee performance... Comedy and emotions handled easily again... Just see him in the mirror scene when he gets to know the truth about Salman... Amazing!!

Years ago, Abbas-Mustan had offered SRK's role in Baazigar to Akki after their huge success with Khiladi.... Akki sadly refused saying that a negative role would affect his female fan following.. Thankfully, Akki didnt have the same views when Ajnabee (Music- Anu Malik)was offered (maybe coz he was already married.. :-D ) and gave a sophisticated performance as a villain.... "Seedhe seedhe bol na meri biwi ko dekh raha hai"!!
