Best of Five Films by Aamir Khan in Indian Film Industry
HE is the quintessential chocolate hero who has proven beyond doubt that talent speaks over and above everything. He made his debut with a relatively unknown NFDC approved and produced film Holi in a very insignificant role, followed by Raakh. While Holi did received national award for cinematography it remained a non-entity while Raakh which co-starred Pankaj Kapoor remained in the cans to be only released after his commercial debut with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The movies remained in the can but an actor was born.
Of course he attributes his precision to his need to be earnest and sincere. Perhaps it's earnestness that made him take so long before he plunged into filmmaking. After dallying with the decision to direct a film for over five years, Aamir has taken a step closer to his ultimate goal of wielding the megaphone by turning producer.
Best of Five in my opinion:
Rangeela(1995)
Munna was Aamir Khan! Aamir Khan was Munna! No actor could have played a tapori so convincingly. Whether it was a scene where markets film tickets in black or takes his girlfriend to a five-star hotel dressed completely in gawdy yellow it was only Aamir Khan who could do it so cocksurely.
Ghulam(1998)
With Ghulam Aamir Khan set a trend of sorts. When he sung Ae kya bolti tu, he nearly inspired all the actors from the film industry to try their hand at singing. The character was similar to the one he played in Rangeela. The only difference was that Munna tickled your funny bone while makes you take a serious look at crime.
Sarfarosh(1999)
Though he was petite and soft he was the most feared IPS officer in his department. That was the persona that Aamir Khan donned in Sarfarosh. It stands to be one of his best performances till date. Sarfarosh was the first film that openly dared to hold Pakistan responsible for terrorism in India.
Lagaan(2000)
A simply village urchin, Bhuvan is worried about the heavy tax that the British government has levied upon the villagers of Champaner. Bhuvan along with some of his village friends happens to witness a cricket match. When the British governor challenges them to a cricket match Bhuvan accepts much to the chagrin of the village panchayat. Bhuvan practically became of messiah of the Indian youth. People even voted for Aamir Khan being the Man Of The Year.
Dil Chahta Hai(2002)
. Aamir shows his command over facial expressions and swinging of moods to the hilt Nope, haven't forgotten him. No way you can escape him, when he walks away with'the' role in the film. Probably explains his cat-that-licked-the-whole-tin-of-cream look, you think?!
Facetiousness apart, here's a new Aamir. He's turns on(and off) expressions on a mobile face with consummate ease. Not very many actors dare to do so many close-ups that there are in Dil Chahta Hai AND come out trumps. Aamir does.
