Well here I go again !! This time its with my favourites of the 70’s.
70s was the time when lot of good movies were made. The director, which ruled the nest, was Hrishikesh Mukherjee who gave us a huge selection of great movies. Gulzar has also greatly contributed with his movies during this time.Another good director during this time was Shakti Samanta. But Ramesh Sippy whose one movie created history took the cream.
My best 5 during this period would be
1. Sholay An amazing movie. You can ask anyone of Indian origin and everyone will be telling you that this movie is one of their favourites. There are very few movies, which can compare to this movie. The story and the character plotting were awesome. It had all the big names in the movie and yet there was a balance in the way the characters were placed.
2. Koshish Directed by Gulzar, this movie will definitely make you think. It could be called a classic and a very different movie. The plot is very strong and the leads have defined the plot well and conveyed very strongly the essence of the movie without delivering a dialogue. Some other movies of his which were great hits were Mausam, Aandhi, Parichay, etc
3. Anand Babumoshai.... !!! that still sends a tingle down my spine. It was an emotional roller coaster and Rajesh Khanna had given his very best. I still feel so emotional when I listen to the dialogues. A Hrishikesh Mukherjee hit. He had the knack to know what made the audience tick. Some other movies of his during this time are Golmaal,Buddha Mil Gaya, Gudddi, Bawarchi, Namak Haram, Abhimaan, Mili, Chupke Chupke. Each movie has its own specialty and each one will evoke a different emotion from you.
4. Mera Naam Joker A wonderful movie which will touch our heart if you like Rak Kapoor movies. The script was good and it had a lot of nuances in the movie. It basically deals with relationships and its different perspectives. This movie was directed or produced by Raj Kapoor during this time are Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Bobby, Kal Aaj aur Kal.
5. Amar Prem A beautiful movie with the hit pair Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore. This movie deals with one of the few taboos in the society, which was making waves. A movie which is romantic and it also sends a message to the society. The director of this movie was Shakti Samanta who was also responsible for Aradhana in 1969.
Well those were the best movies, which I thought did real well during the 70s. Hope you liked reading it and yes those who haven’t watched these movies and like watching old movies should rent out some of these movies and check them out. You will find it very entertaining !!! :):):)
