Having been an avid fan of the Discworld series of books since the very beginning, I have to say that this is one of the better books that have been set in Ankh-Morpork. The book by Terry Pratchett, itself revolves around the members of the City Watch living out their lives in a city bubbling over with plot and counter-plot. Feet of Clay is the third novel to be set around the City Watch the others being Guards!Guards! and Men At Arms and sees the expansion of the team with the addition of a cross dressing female dwarven alchemist. The characters of existing Watch members are well developed and is interesting to watch the relationship between Angua (a werewolf from Uberwald) and Captain Carrot (a particularly serious individual). There are two main plots that the book uses as foundation stones the first being a series of murders being committed by golems (automatons made from clay) and the second revolves around a cunning assassination attempt on the Patrician (a character that must have been based on Machiavelli). There are several subplots but revealing those will destroy the desire to read the book. A truly comical but very readable detective story.
