“ Ever stared your worst nightmare in the face? “ …Well, that’s exactly what you’re going to be doing if you are ever in ‘Fear Factor’, the new action series/reality on AXN. Aired every Wednesday prime time at 9:00 pm, the program tests your courage and determination against stuff you never dreamed you’d be encountering. And that’s no joke; this is, in all reality the stuff nightmares are composed of. Imagine being run down by killer dogs or lying in a pit covered by snakes {including a sixteen foot Boa-Constrictor} or having to eat beetles and worms…if that isn’t scary, I haven’t a clue as to what is, and if there is I’m sure I wouldn’t want to know.
Hosted by Joe Rogan, the program is based on a rather unique and original concept. As the title suggests, it’s all about ‘FEAR’! Every show, six people of all walks of life from across the States are randomly selected to participate in this unique show {three men and three women}. The competitors are then pitted against each other in three amazing stunts, upon successful completion of which, they emerge victorious. And the motivation for such a task, a cash price of 50,000$. The first stunt is usually a relatively simpler one which tests the person’s skills, for example, climbing onto a moving helicopter or escaping from killer dogs {I know that all this isn’t exactly ‘simple’, but compared to the rest it’s a cake-walk}. The second stunt tests the person’s resolve and determination and the extent to which he/she is prepared to go to obtain his goal. It is the totally gross section, where the contestant is forced to lie amongst snakes or devour beetles and worms alive. One can’t help but feel sorry for the sole vegetarian who once walked onto the show. And the final stunt is a ‘simple’ competition to determine a single winner. Well, you can bet that this is as thrilling as it gets. And the fact that two women have already emerged victorious during its short history proves that this isn’t a man’s game.
Overall, this is one show that really gets the adrenalin going. But be advised, parental guidance is recommended, as this show certainly isn’t suitable for young children and people weak at heart. Definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever come across in television. Exceptional, innovative and thrilling.
