I know I twisted the title a little bit, but I've read a few interesting 'young adult' books lately.
- Artemis Fowl-
Artemis Fowl is a 12 year criminal mastermind. That's right. He's a rich young genius with a trusty sidekick, Butler (who by the way, is well-versed in all sorts of martial arts and is very protective of his young master) and he's plotting to steal gold from the fairyfolk. He's certain to succeed, until he comes up against Captain Holly Short of the faeries, who proves to be Artemis' nemesis. How these two adversaries match wits makes for delightful reading, sort of like a dark 'Harry Potter'.
Eoin Colfer is quoted as saying the story is 'Die Hard, with faeries'.
- Matilda-
Roald Dahl's Matilda is about a young girl with a horrible family. Something wonderful and odd happens to Matilda one day, and only her teach Miss Honey, is able to help her. Full of Dahl's fun grossness and humour, tenderness and simply great writing, Matilda is one of the great children's books.
But most of Roald Dahl's books are great.
I only have these two to contribute at this time, because everyone's already mentioned public favourites like Enid Blyton and Amar Chitra Katha.
Let me know what you think!
