Title says it all.
Fans of aamir n Kajol will patronize n enjoy(i mean won't get bored) by this movie.
For others( who are in a minority) this movie is a total letdown.
Even though I belong to the first category, I will try and be objective in my review.
As everyone else, even I had decent expectations from the movie. I had expected it to be at least as time pass as HumTum. But I was proved wrong by Mr Kunal Kohli and his team.
The movie's major drawback is its screenplay. The movie is divided into a bearable and sometimes enjoyable first half and an equally unbearable and not at all enjoyable second half.
The movie starts with Kajol(playing a blind character) going to New Delhi to take part in Republic day celebrations. In Delhi she meets flirtatious and Shaayar Aamir who works as a tourist guide. In this age of fast food, they fall in love as quickly as a 30 minute delivered pizza. Kajol just falls for Aamir.(very difficult to comprehend as to how quickly someone can fall in love, but strange are the ways of love ,so Mr Kohli you maybe right.)
Aamir looks bit old for the character. His face looks bloated in the first half. Kajol is a revelation. She looks more stunning than she ever did.(Mr Ravi Chandran, take a bow.) The one good thing about Kajol’s character is that it does not try to evoke sympathy.
The first half has hummable songs the best being Subhaan Allah .(The choreography could have been better).
In the first half ,Aamir takes kajol on a tour of delhi, sings songs, and indulges in pre marital sex.
The interval portion reveals that Aamir is a terrorist. Also Kajol’s eye sight is restored miraculously by some operation.
The second half shows Aamir’s character being involved in terrorist activities. He looks better than he does in first half.(the hair cut helps). No justification is provided for the terrorist activities.
After 7 years during one of his escapades, he lands up injured at Kajol’s house in Kashmir. Kajol has had a son by that time by the same name as that of Aamir’s character Rehaan.
The pace drops here. The story just does not move. There is nothing to look forward in the story. Even the dilemma of Aamir torn between his love for Kajol and his sense of duty towards his terrorist organization is not developed. Aamir’s character is a weak minded one.
”Out of sight is out of mind “ and when in sight “ I don’t have mind” describes his character. He starts believing that once he delivers the electronic device called trigger , he will be able to come back to Kajol and start his life fresh. But he does not know that as per Indian Law it is illegal to courier explosive articles. Indian intelligence agency team headed by Tabu is after him to stop his post and courier activities.
In the process Rishi Kapoor, playing Kajol’s dad and Satish shah, his friend get killed by Aamir .
Will Aamir be able to deliver the parcel? Will Kajol forgive Aamir? Will Tabu be able to remind the viewers that even she is a part of this movie ( not extra like shiney ahuja or lara Dutta)?
For answers to above questions go n watch fanaa.
I recommend this movie only to fans of Aamir/Kajol. Only they will be able to concentrate on the lead stars and forget everything including the story. The two especially Kajol, are very good in essaying their characters. The young kid has also acted very well.
For others as u have been doing since 5 months post RDB, hope n pray that Krissh, Phir hera pheri etc will be good reasons for once again going to theatres and enjoy an experience known as time pass , paisa vassool PICTURE.
