The music competition in the television medium as far as I remember was started at DD1 named ?Meri Awaz Suno? (if u think not please tell in comments). It was a very popular show. Sunidhi Chowhan is the best product of that program. After that many music competition occurred in TV channels (Saregama etc). But in the previous year Sony India started to think in different ways.
They have just changed some definitions of music competitions and also followed American Idol. After the huge success of Indian Idol Sony India started another interesting music competition based on public voting named Fame Gurukul. Now the number of reviews on Mouthshut about Fame Gurukul is just telling the success story, it also tells that this is one of the hottest topics in India just like Chappel-Sourav issue or KGB issue.
If you are investing your money to gain profit you have to sell your things properly. And I am telling you the fact that Sony India know perfectly how to sell their package, how to make it hot topic in the country.
In this poor country every people want to make big money in short ways. Lottery is the best example of that. Similarly when star plus introduced KBC it just created history in the field of Indian television. And also in this hugely populated country there isnt lack of bathroom singer. Every people love to dream. Sony India just set up a thought sell dream. There is no difference between those politicians who take votes just by selling dreams.
Who doesn?t want to be millennium or Indian idol or Fame Jori Every people love dreams and Sony India is just profiting.
When I see those episodes which are nothing but just another polished drama between Monday and Tuesday I just think about their marketing plans. Who loves whom, who dances well, who went to the Sidhdhi Vinayak Temple just selling their stuff! And I can tell you one thing that the politics, voting. Everything is nothing but pure marketing, pure drama just like W.W.E.
Have you watched how many companies are involved in this show? The numbers of ads are just showing the fact. Today John and Bipasha came just as brand ambassador of Clinic All Clear. The commercial breaks are taking more times than the show. Just pure marketing.
In Indian idol, as a singer Abhijeet Sawant wasnt better than Rahul Vaidya, Amit Sana or Rahul Saxena. But again the answer is marketing. Sony India is now just creating the stars and again(oh no not again) marketing with their stars. The contract of one crore or the car is not a problem for them because they have already earned hundred times more than the prize money.
I don?t think that this type of program is a short cut to enter into the bollywood. This is just an easy way to sell stuff, increase the TRP of your program.
