Eye in the sky is a movie that gives an idea about modern warfare and its implications. Directed by award-winning director Gavin Hood( known for movies like Wolverine, Tsotsi, Ender's game) this movie deals with a highly sensitive topic of drone attacks carried out by governments in hostile territories. On one such mission, Colonel Powell(Helen Mirren) orders for a drone attack at a safe house in Nairobi where the terrorists are suspected to be. There are two pilots in control of the drone, who serve as the eyes in the sky. Which otherwise would have been a simple mission, gets complicated when a child enters the area marked to be attacked. That is when the rules of engagement come into play. This is when the ethics are tested of not just the Colonel in charge of the attack but the lieutenant(Alan Rickman) and other high-profile government officials.

Gavin Hood has a distinctive tone in his movies - the kind that engages you completely. All the scenes of Farah( the child) are intense and the display of emotions by the 2 actors who play the role of the pilots is compelling. Alan Rickman has a cold, icy personality as the Lt and Helen Mirren too barely displays any emotion, which perfectly suits the character. Hood's phenomenal direction is backed with this brilliant story and stunning acting by Rickman and Mirren. The harrowing reality of drone warfare is brilliantly captured on screen. In short this is an intense movie and definitely worth your time.
