The entire nation is obsessed with a lot of things and "English" is one of those, there is for sure no issue with the language but the way our nation has been dealing with it is something which must be rethinked. A broad chasm is being created between those who can speak and those who cannot, and very few who wants to help the later and probably this is installing a lot of uneasiness in various people. Sometime we even don’t hesitate on using slangs like HMT (Hindi Medium Types) for those who can’t speak.
The so called great language “English” has been a ghost for a lot and they have been so worried about the uses of it, there was a day when I was also in the same category but now it’s easy to put a lot of Gyaan in The language (lol). Without speaking much I would like to share certain points of observation about the movie.
Sridevi has done a fantastic job and could successfully represent thousand of non-English speakers and their thrust (or rather Requirement) to learn the language, the way she collects money to shows courage to join the English class in pictured well. She could really show to the audience that though the language is a requirement we need not to be mad about it and there is always a way to overcome the hurdle. The movie will remind you about that old TV show where Pankaj Kapoor used to be an English teacher.
The determination of a housewife is pictured well in form of Shashi, where she is even ignored by the children just because she can’t speak English and thy feel odd when she goes to attend the PTM for them. Probably this is the state of a lot of parents. (Kids!! It’s not their fault if they can’t speak, but it’s their efforts that you could get a chance to learn the language).
A lovable scene comes when the English teacher calls Shahi (Sridevi) and Entrepreneur and she feels elated, It reminds me of Will Smith from “In pursuit of Happiness” when he gets a job after huge efforts and there comes smile of satisfaction on his face.
The movie talks about a sensitive (I feel its sensitive, readers may have their own views) issue but in a beautiful and simple manner. Overall it was good to watch a movie with good theme and acts.
