The England football team is one with a massive fan following around the globe, evidence seen during the World Cup, where the usually, controlled, mild Japanese went nuts on seeing Beckham, Owen and Company.
I must confess that I too am an England supporter, who was a bit choked on seeing them go down to Brasil.
England however are a bunch of talented palyers, who are hyped to the heavens, and when they fail, dragged through the mud.
One look at their line up reveals a formidable team, in attack more so than in defence.
A usual England team looks like:
Ashley Cole(Arsenal):Plays to the left of defence, is great on the ball, but gets forward a bit too much, and thus is caught out in counter-attacks.
Sol Campbell(Arsenal): Centre of defence, rock-solid, physically the most intimidating player in England.
Rio Ferdinand(Man Utd.): The most expensive defender in the world, an able partner to Campbell, great at tackles.
Danny Murphy(Liverpool): Plays to the right of defence, solid player, good tackler, set-piece taker, kicks great crosses.
David Beckham(Man Utd): Captain, usually to right of midfield, probably the worlds best crosser, has an eye for goal, set-piece master, a setpiece 30-35 yards out from goal is ''Beckham territory''.
Paul Scholes(Man Utd.): Centre of midfield, has got cannons for legs, powerful shot taker, doesnt get behind too often, good tackler.
Nicky Butt(Man Utd.): Centre of midfield, solid palayer, does a bit of defending when required.
Steven Gerrard(Liverpool): Winger, very powerful shot-taker, excellant tackles, doea a bit of defending
Emile Heskey(Liverpool): palys in front of the midfield, hold up play specialist, strong, good tackles, good in the air.
Michael Owen(Liverpool): Striker, plays in front of Heskey, very very fast, an eye for goal, prolific striker, good finisher
David Seamen(Arsenal): Goalkeeper, aging warhorse, good shot stopper, dithers when the ball is curling from long distances
On paper, as above this side is extremely good, however they usually dont do all that well in tournaments, bad luck plagues them, and all the players being in the media spotlight probably wilt under the pressure.
