'Love is Blind' haven't we all heard and read this? We have watched umpteen films portraying the power of love. Well, is 'power of love' the right expression? Wouldn't ‘strength of love’ sound better then ‘power of love’? Seems I am confused and why not?  ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ has shown a different shade of love to the world.

If 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' warned people not to send their brothers to search a girl for them because there are chances that she might end up becoming your sister-in-law rather than your wife.  Then YRF's latest venture 'Ek Tha Tiger' would be a wakeup call for the secret agencies worldwide to ensure that their agents do not fall in love because then they might forget their duties besides forgetting all the good work they have done for the nation as these grown up agents are likely to elope like school going teenage kids with their lover.

Mind you, they have the power or strength of love with them therefore however powerful the agencies will be, they won't be able to catch them. Well, they might click some pictures of them; they may also locate them in any part of the world but will fail to catch them. And all their efforts to kill them will fall flat as these lovebirds will destroy everything that will come in their way of love. Power / Strength, remember?

Ladies and gentlemen, unless you are a diehard YRF banner’s fan, get ready to bang your heads on the walls because their latest presentation ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ drives you nuts after the first 30 minutes of the film that creates a platform for a high voltage spy drama. But what followed for the next 90 minutes was of FAIR to BAD category.

The film begins with a bang in Iraq where Salman encounters an agent of RAW who has been found guilty of selling information to ISI. Returns home after the assignment & it is learnt that he has not taken leave since 12 years. Immediately accepts another assignment in Ireland, which is to keep an eye on an Indian scientist who is suspected of selling information to ISI.

He meets Katrina in Ireland, who takes care of scientist’s house in his absence. Instantly they become close, which follows by dialogues that can please ONLY THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED TO KNOW ABOUT SALMAN & KATRINA’S OFF-SCREEN LIFE, for others these scenes will send them to Zzzzzz zone as they hold no material that can attract you.

When Katrina’s identity as an ISI agent is disclosed & the next 5 minutes thereafter, comes as a sucker punch & assures that the film will be back on track with some more twists & turns. What follows is nothing but a nonsensical series of events that will either force you to pull your hair or laugh at the imagination of the writers & director who thought they were making something that really makes sense. Even though on two occasions for few moments, the writers did try to throw in a shock but that was only to fool the viewers.

The concept of RAW agent falling in love with ISI agent is certainly novel to form a platform but this is just half the work done because unless the strong story backs the concept to construct a solid structure on this well laid platform, the purpose is not solved. That is where the writers have failed big time as their two main lead characters acts like revolutionary teenage kids. Moreover, we are forced to digest the notion of makers that agencies like RAW & ISI can easily be fooled by two individuals and they can do anything, anywhere they want or like.

The music is passable. Photography is good but could have been better. Dialogues are confusing at places because they do not follow the script at times.

Action scenes are superbly executed and performed but the last scenes when Salman jumps into the running plane is hard to swallow.

Girish Karnad’s presence in the film was a pleasant surprise as no one else is interested to cast him in their films. He does a good job though.

Ranvir Shorey’s character is a bit confused one because at times he is with the agency & then switches side. His look with beard is not very impressive. His performance is of average category.

Katrina Kaif has performed well again. On few occasions she had to perform with her face expressions & her eyes didn’t let her down. She shines for sure.

Salman Khan who has become one of the biggest crowd puller since couple of years carries the film on his shoulders. The trouble of casting him is that he has to do things that can please his fans, otherwise they won’t go to the theater and when that is done, the story goes haywire. ETT is no different. The film might have opened to the biggest opening ever but will certainly not live up to the standards that an entertainer needs to possess.

The writing department fails because they have made a fantasy film instead of a thriller. Moreover the way Kabir Khan has handled the scenes, springs a few surprises because this is the man who gave us ‘New York’ & we expected more from him but he fails badly.

If you are a Samlan Khan fan & a worshipper of YRF banner, the film is likely to please you but if you are a person who watch film for entertainment this is a big letdown by all standards.

Rating: 1.5 / 5 (0.5 for film & 1 extra for Salman Khan)
