Hmm, what’s with the agent movies churning out now-a-days. Yes, there are so many made daily in Hollywood, but now Bollywood too is getting into the trend. I think it’s the failure of Indian Intelligence agency that mad film-maker inspired to make movies on RAW, so that they can atleast learn something. Few days back came Agent Vinod, and now this one, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. This is the third venture of director Kabir Khan after ‘Kabul Express’ and ‘New York’, and I can put this movie equal to New York, and KE will always remain his best. Let’s check out what’s there in the movie for us-:
DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY THE MOVIE. Tiger (Salman Khan) is a RAW agent, who has a boss in Shenoy (Girish Karnad), and a fellow agent cum friend Gopi (Ranvir Shorey). He is given a new assignment in Ireland to observe an ex-Indian Scientist Kidwai (Roshan Seth), because RAW have a doubt that he is selling anti-missile technology to Pakistan, and in the assignment he falls in love with Zoya aka ZEE (Katrina Kaif), who also in actual an agent but an ISI agent. Just at interval Tiger comes to know about Zee, and they separate their paths, but later on, after listening to their hearts they decide to run away from Indian or Pakistani intelligence agencies, so as to live happily ever after, but both agencies knew the importance of these agents and they put all their power behind them to catch them.
Easier said than done, the thinking is good (though we have seen the basic plot earlier also in recently made Ishaqzaade) by Aditya Chopra, but there are flaws in screenplay by Neelesh Mishra and Kabir Khan, due to which a movie which should be tight and fast paced, in actual becomes slack and slow-paced. Had it been much faster, I may have liked it better. Kabir Khan has shown his talent once more, the movie has reality, all the stunts looked possible, if we consider Salmaan’s earlier no-brain-no-story hit movies, this one fare much much better, he didn’t went with the emotions, and made it real and simple. The camera angles and presentation was good, neat and precise and close-ups came good (Aseem Mishra). Stunts were good but some special effects falters especially the one in which our hero Salmaan was shown in close-ups, it clearly looks like a special effect, though the fights here where they jumped and bumped looked flawless unlike to many earlier movies which shows the actors literally flying in air. Some scenes came really good, especially the chasing scene in the starting of movie, and in the 2nd half, when both the agents ran from other agents who are behind them, that chasing sequence was just perfect, and I wished more of it!, and Katrina-Salman’s chemistry was just perfect. And I saw Katrina can act! Salman looks awesome and too real. Though the climax scene where Salman caught the flying plane in mid-air looks foolish and I am damn sure it must be idea of Salman himself to add that instead of director Kabir Khan. All the actors come well, Ranvir looks great in his bearded look, and Girish Karnad shows his power performance. Roshan Seth perfectly fit to the character of an eccentric professor and scientist. 2nd half was better than the slow 1st one.
Locations are ecstatic, and shot beautifully. The title of this 130-135 minute movie suits perfectly to the movie, and I have seen some agent-based Hollywood movie where both the partners are agent and work for opposition agencies, this one goes on same track but was unable to follow properly. Songs are good and rightly placed, there are 4 songs in the movie - ‘Banjaara’ (Sukhwinder Singh), ‘Laapata’ (KK Palak Muchhal), ‘Mashallah’ (Wajid, Shreya Ghoshal) and ‘Saiyaara’ (Mohit Chauhan, Tarannum Malik), best one are Mashallah and Saiyaara, worth listening.
Remember this is a romantic movie and not an action movie, so do watch it with those eyes, and you will enjoy it, it also has some comic sequences in the 1st half, and is a perfect entertainer for family, and I will recommend it with 3/5. But I have a desire to saw Kabir Khan’s movie again, and I hope he made that one with the same intensity with which he made ‘Kabul Express’, that was slow but an awesome movie.
