It took me days of begging, cajoling, blackmailing and finally, maroing senti, to be able to persuade someone to watch the movie with me. This friend , extremely reluctantly, agreed to go for this fillum - two conditions : a not so popular theatre so that people don?t recognise him and a signed agreement that I'll watch ' The Hero' with him!
(Prem - kindly switch places with meI found you a bakra)
Excited me and long faced friend took our seats in a ridiculously empty theatre and sat down to enjoy..experience..be entertained for the next three hours. (ok, so I am speaking for myself).
The credits rolled and gave a very strong promise of the fun that was expected to follow - the comic strips and the foot tapping background music were amazing.
EAEG doesn't really have 11 things worth mentioning and nor would you want to watch it 11 times. It's most definitely not a movie that'll provoke profound discussions and exchange of views..but it sure does stay on in your memory as a movie that will create ripples of laughter amongst a group of friends - a typical DD cheesy grinning entertainer!
I guess you can categorise the 'must watch' aspects of the movie into :
The Nerds
Tara (Govu dear) and Sitara (Sunju pyaara) are two conmen. Don?t need to know more than that. You can expect oodles of laughter due to their antics, their games and the chemistry that is between them. Govinda's skill at comedy is at his peak and he doesn't even have to open his mouth for you to start chortling (and no, it's not cos he looks funny!!!) His expressions are brilliant and the camaraderie with Sunju is so easy and fluent that it seems natural for them to behave the way they do.
The two 'stars' get into a hilarious encounter with 'cobra' - a dreaded gangster , and to escape him, they con a military general to invite them to his home. Fleeing cobra and subsequently, his brother 'panther', conning the general, romancing the two women and generally creating situations that have no choice but to become hilarious and invoke ribtickling giggles keeps the two occupied for the three hours.
How can anyone not manage to crack up laughing whenever these two open their mouths or whenever Govinda gives one of his expressions or whenever Sunju fails at advising Govu or whenever these two sing, dance, joke around - actually the entire movie!!!
The Birds
Preeti (Dearie Amrita) and Pinky ( Pyaari Nandini) are the, ahem, heroines of this completely 'heroes' dominated movie. So do they make a mark? Well, yes they do - in the minds of the male audience. According to my friend, one of the things that made this movie worth watching was the frequent display of the ladies' figures and their dance moves. Ofcourse they do mutter inane dialogues and bat their eyelashes at our two nerds and manage their ultimate aim of 'awakening the better feelings in the hearts of robbers' by pouting and whimpering. Pinky does manage to invoke quite a few guffaws because of her scenes with Govinda - he's pretending to be in a wheelchair and she tries out various treatments. Preeti? Sadly, she doesn't have too much of a role..but she does call Sunju a 'he man' atleast 11 times!!
The Thirds
Jackie Shroff comes into this category purely for his 'jump' sequences. Please and kindly, do not miss his three jumps in the movie - the stylish jump, the angry jump and the 'about turn' jump.
Himani Shivpuri is wonderful as the two nerds' mother. Although she doesn't have too many scenes, she does create a funny impact (as in, an impact which is funny..if you get what I mean..hehe) by her accent and her dialogues.
Ashish Vidyarthi and Gulshan Grover as the two scary animals - cobra and panther, are ok. They are like all David Dhawan villains .. trying to be funnily dangerous and getting the short end of the straw by the nerdy tricks of the nerds.
Rajpal Yadav as the servant of the general might get on your nerves but he's real cute and very frolicky ( for want of a better word)
The Words (the dialogues really, but that didn't rhyme )
The backbone of the movie. The 'hold your sides laughing listening to them' and the tickling every rib in your body kind of words.
The two nerds speak only in Punjabi - easy to understand Punju with the most atrociously comical accent. I guess that makes the jokes and the dialogues sound atleast eleven times funnier!! Some of the dialogues are so unbelievably unheard of (the way they are mixed and matched) and one cannot even imagine hearing them anywhere except except a David Dhawan movie.
I collapsed whenever these guys burst into impromptu hindi and punju songs - which they happily did at every possible opportunity and at the most unexpected of moments.
The most amazing dialogues, I feel, are the ones exchanged between these two when they try to stop the kidnapping of the general's son. How could they even think of such a scene and such dialogues is beyond me!!!!
The Chords (hehe.. writer's license)
The title song is absolute and pure fun to listen to. It keeps on appearing out of nowhere throughout the movie and increases the tempo of the scene going on. Ofcourse, the whole idea of the nerds breaking into a jig during tense situations makes it slightly more interesting to watch.
The other songs are a waste of time - atleast for me!! There are these two supposedly situational seduction and seductive numbers that have nothing to speak of in terms of music and lyrics but have visual appeal (I am sure you get what I mean)
The last song reminds of Jodi No 1 - same situation, same disc, same upbeat and racy music. If there were any other songs, I must have been day dreaming !!!
Ye do mard..
Bolke apne shabd
hansaate hansaate karein pait mein dard
Haseena Maan jaayegi tha rice, Jodi No 1 thee dal, to EAEG hai Curd !!!
Thank you thank you..please stop clapping now!!!
