RATING:
THE STORY
ok,so it would be an understatement to say that the plot is not only utterly familiar, but also quite trite(read:man on fire).the narration centres around an ex-army colonel suryaveer singh(amitabh bachchan) who tries to push back his disturbing past by seeking a job as a bodygaurd to a 10 year old girl anamika(rucha vaidya),the daughter of rich indian parents ravi(vikram chatwal)and nikash rathor(perizaad)in crime infested bangkok.he is called on by his ex-commando friend shekhar(arjun rampal)who runs a night club in bankok.things take a sudden turn when anamika is kidnapped and suryaveer singh is badly injured.on his recovery,he learns that the girl has been killed by the kidnappers, due to a botched up police job.he sets out to vanquish the entire sleazy underworld of bangkok and in the process learns the bitter truth.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS
the script is badly adapted and introduces additional elements that mar the pace of the narrative.a staggering first half where the action takes time to build up.the second half is somehow redeeming, thanks to some powerful action sequences and arjun rampal's performance in the climax.more effort is gone into the look of the film and the end result is 'all style no substance'.the bodygaurds fondness for the girl is also not properly developed.action is good in the second half.camerawork is good, creating a chic look of bangkok's hustle-bustle.editing could have been more tighter.technically,ok.musically,there is only one hummable song ''dil ko chura ke le gaya''directorially apoorva lakhia is unable to create an impact.background music is also loud.scenes of bachchans memory of his past are also laboured.
TRADE ANALYSIS
the films towering presence was that of amitabh bachchan whose current health status is causing a national concern, but the film did not generate any sort of sympathy wave.infact, the film could not garner any initial wave.at the boxoffice,it has nothing much to offer.however, business will be somewhat better in the multiplexes.
PERFORMANCES
amitabh bachchan revisits his angry young man avatar, but this time in a more stylised version.no one but he could have done justice to such a character.you feel like standing up and applauding every time he delivers his dialogues and performs with enermous gusto.he still is the towering inferno of moviedom.arjun rampal in an interesting and unpredictable role which he has played perfectly, watch him sizzle in the song ''ek ajnabee dil ko''baby rucha is endearing.perizaad zorabian is apt and vikram chatwal passes muster.
CLOSING STATEMENT
nothing much in the movie to sing praises of,except for amitabh bachchan all the way.this one's for a die-hard amitabh bachchan fan.
