The eBay Guarantee Claim does not cover manufacturer warranty products and if you buy one and it arrives dead, you will have nobody to help you!
I bought 1 4TB Toshiba hard disk from eBay on 4th Nov 2016, the product got delivered on 8-Nov and when I tried to install it did not work. I raised an eBay guarantee claim on 9th Nov 5am, eBay team replied we will get back in 4 days. On 14 Nov I got a message that the claim is rejected because item is covered under manufacturer warranty and ebay guarantee claim does not cover manufacturer warranty. Meanwhile I observed several discrepancies in the product, its label etc and it was not a brand new product but a refurbished or repaired product. So I requested eBay to open claim again. On 20-Nov, I got a call from eBay claims dept and they asked me to go to service center 20km from my place and get a letter from manufacturer that product is not working. When I went to service center they told me that they will not provide any such letter. they will only provide acknowledgement if I give product for repair. Frustrated I gave the product to them and they gave me an acknowledgement. I sent the same to eBay so that eBay can take action against the seller for sending defective item but the eBay team did not do anything.
I tried to call them several times but every time the CSR will tell me that the claim is rejected and I had to explain the entire story and then he will finally agree to arrange a call back from claims team. There is no way to directly get in touch with eBay claims team, you can only call customer care and then they will arrange a call back from Claims team in 2 days time and if you miss the call by any chance, you have to go through the entire process again. Meanwhile I followed up with service center and they told me that they cannot provide replacement for the defective product and they can only give a Credit Note or alternate model. The alternate model did not suit my purpose so I went for whatever refund they gave me. They gave me cheque of Rs. 8495/- on 31-Jan - 3 months after I purchase the product. So any seller on eBay can send you dead product that are under manufacturer warranty and then you will be running around like me. After 3 months I could get only 8495/- rs. back while the originally I paid Rs. 9637/- after applying discount coupon I got on mail from eBay. It is really really horrible experience,
I will not buy anything from eBay again. Now I hate eBay as much as anyone can hate anything.
