Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be happening that way....My experiences with S Hotel were initially limited to their lounge. This is a place with futuristic design but a very sad atmosphere. It is never occupied even on weekends and if it all, has a couple of guys hanging around with beer. We tried twice and aborted both attempts. This time we tried their rooftop restaurant called East Winds. This was on the evening of the recent India bandh so we had a nice table and not much crowd. Being a 5th floor place gives this restaurant an excellent view and some awesome breeze esp this time of the year.
The cuisine is a blend of Thai, Japanese & surprisingly Continental fare (mostly Italian). So the name East Winds seems a misnomer. The starter portions are ok - we felt they were inadequate since we were a group of 6 sharing a single portion but will suffice for 2-3 people. We tried all veg food that day and I cannot comment knowledgeably on vegetarian food but it seemed ok. The drinks are decently priced and have all the usual stuff - nothing stands out. The Long Island Iced Tea was well prepared - quite strong and not too much cola. For main course, we ordered some noodles, a Japanese curry and a couple of continental dishes. Nothing was bad but I wouldn't call it extraordinary. The Japanese curry was quite sweet but excellent flavors. If you like the sweetness of Oriental food, you can go for this one.For dessert, we ordered a very tempting fruit-ice cream-cake. All we got was a 2 layers of cake with fruit in between and heated in an oven. Not bad but the description was much better.
The overall experience was spoiled by the service. They only had 3-4 customers and ample staff. But service was slow esp. with the drinks. The were keen to ask for a repeat round of drinks but were slow serving them. They were hesitant to offer multiple menu cards to our group.
Pricing is little on the higher side but drinks are reasonably priced compared to similar places in the city.
Imagine a slow Sunday evening. You are bored at home, wife doesn't feel like cooking and you don't have a big appetite either. Neither are you in the mood to drive into the city. You need a quick bite close to home. Choose this place for such days.
