East is east is a satire on the asians based in the U.K. It reflects the conflict of cultures among the younger generation and their adarshwadi parents.
The film revolves around a family consisting of Mr. Khan (wonderfully played by Om. Puri), his Brit but humble wife(Linda Basset) and their five sons and a daughter(played by real life desi Brits). Mr. Khan being a true Paki at heart wants his kids to be raised up as dutiful, decent Pakis but the kids are a real mess, they are a bunch of spoilt brats who need serious lessons in etiquette. All this results into wild interaction between ''papa preacher'' and the supposedly ''kewl kids''. The poor mother is torn between her hubby and kids.
The irony in the movie is very well depicted especially in the scene where Mr. Khan decides to get his sons forcefully married to a bunch of desi girls...But mind u the girls are horrible looking, with no sense of humor a weird sense of dressing (they land up wearing red salwar kameez with golden laces and thick glares..yuck), but above all they were PAKIS...hahaah
Also the daily lingo of Mr. Khan seems so much true...him wishing ''Assalamoalikum'' to his desi friends is so touching..
Except for a few cases of toilet gutter comedy..this movie is reeally a worth dekho.. A mind shattering experience but very true to life.
