DTM is a new lounge that has opened up in HSR layout on the ring rd, opp Dhaba restaurant(the one in HSR, not Marathahalli). So from a location stand point, its a very convenient spot for south Bangaloreans.
This is an open air place located on the 5th floor. They have a restaurant on the gnd floor with hotel rooms on the other floors. The open air seating is the real attraction to this place. The seating is very limited and the balcony seating is sought out place since it gives a good view and some excellent fresh air.
The drinks are the usual suspects. I found their Tequila Sunrise and Margarita to be quite good. They only serve starters and I found their servings to be quite decent. Avoid Peanit Masala though - its not too great.
Service can be slow esp on weekends and although they have staff, they are not able to manage. The music.well, what music? They do have an enclosed dance floor but it is perpetually deserted.
The price is their biggest drawback. For a HSR layout location, they are charging quite a premium for their drinks. Cocktails are all in the range of Rs 350/- and a round of Old Monk costs more than a round of Blenders Pride. Funny that, eh? Its at par with other places in the city.
The crowd is not the party hopper crowd u see in the chic joints in the city. It seems like ppl just dropped in on their way home from grocery shopping! So why would one go to a place where the prices are steep and the place doesn't rock?
Well, for one its one of limited options in south Bangalore. Two, its a non pretentious place where I have seen people come in shorts, track bottoms, grocery bags.all things you would never associate with a place which calls itself a lounge bar. But that is why you can go with some close friends on a Fri night after work, have a couple of beers, chat and relax. You dont have to dress up and act cool. If you want to do that, there is no dearth of choices in the city. What we lack is a place like this, which gives you a little premium ambience, choice of drinks and a good, quiet place where u can drop in for a drink even at a late hour(by Bangalore standards that would be 10-10:30 pm). So I dont mind the premium on the price.
They have a few opportunities to do better. They can definitely improve the service & the music. The restaurant downstairs serves only buffet dinner at 350 bucks a head. At 11 pm, you need is a quick bite. They can create options for DTM customers, who otherwise head to Koramangala for dinner.
