Let me tell you at first that I love animals and that was the reason why I loved watching Dr Dolittle 1. When there was a second part to this movie, I was very excited to watch this movie.
About the movie
Well this movie also deals with the escapades of Dr Dolittle with another bunch of animals. What I liked about the movie is that they have kept a level of continuity with the first part and woven the story in an interesting manner.
The Plot
The plot was nothing new but the director has tried to make it watchable. But I guess one could sit through if one loved animals.
The script is funny and the voiceovers are terrific. The main plot deals with the mating of two extinct bears to save the animal world and deforestation. The only hitch is that the male bear ( Archie) is a circus bear who likes beaches and listening to Backstreet boys and the female bear ( Eva) is a wild bear who lives in the forest and who is shy and looking for someone to provide for and take care of her family.
Archie (voiced by Steve Zahn) is very funny when he sings and tries to find something to impress his to be girl friend Eva. Eva ( voiced by Friends’ actress Lisa Kudrow) is very much the shy bear.
The rest of the animals do try and steal the show for example the raccoon (voiced by Michael Rapaport) who claims that he can bite the humans and infect them with rabies but that cannot save the animal world.
Pepito the chameleon (voiced by Jacob Vargas) is also quite amusing with him trying to blend into the surroundings but not being able to !!
My impressions
I thought it was an okay movie. It will keep the kids entertained to some extent but after sometime the story falls flat and well maybe that’s because they have put old wine in a new bottle.
The movie has a good start but after sometime it falls flat and the kids also start fidgeting in their seats. I know because the whole theatre was filled with kids and gradually I could hear the kids wanting to go out or just plain asking for Potato chips and Pepsi and generally getting restless :):)
Though the movie was meant to be funnier than the first part, it simply does not have the magic to capture the audiences attention for a long time.
Should you watch this movie
Well it should be entertaining for kids who haven’t watched the first part. But you could give it a miss if you have watched the first part.
Meanwhile you could rent the video if there is not other children's movies available.
