Dor…..A movie that never lets u take off your eyes from the silver screen! It is like it really ties up all your attention with a DOR :D!!! But it is truly made for an audience which can extract the deepest emotions out of simple moments which can be a part of our lives too…Its all about the deeply hidden emotions! The film is a beautiful tale of love, loss, friendship, and courage …..A story of two women– one who undertakes a long journey to save her love, and another who dares to break the shackles of tradition and choose life as her heart wants it.
How far would you go for love? That's the question which the narrative softly raises. The stunningly original star cast ,the simplicity and Nagesh Kukunoor’s way of telling a story wins the heart of the audiences….Kukunoor, who emphasises on the human element in all his films, once again tries to show how basic emotions bind us together.
It is a complex tale of how two very diverse worlds collide. Yet it is told in an uncomplicated, sensible manner, minus melodrama, cliches and a glamour overkill. It's also amusing enough to keep you in splits throughout. Those who have the appetite for big-budgeted, opulent, star-studded, melodramatic Bollywood movies may not be enthused at the prospect of watching a relatively small-budget, realistic film with Ayesha Takia , Gul Panag and Shreyas Talpade in the lead roles.but trust me the simplicity in their acting and direction can put many self-proclaimed big shots of Bollywood to shame.:D
The film is mostly shot in Rajasthan…Nagesh Kukunoor uses least possible locations yet creates a deep rooted impact on the viewer!
As I told you it’s a story about two women- Zeenat (Gul Panag) and Meera (Ayesha Takia), both living in different parts of India. Their fate is invariably strung together by one incident that changes both their lives forever. Zeenat is an independent, self assured woman from Himachal Pradesh who has lived life on her terms. Her strength of character is evident from how she lives alone, chooses to marry for love, and is ready to go to any lengths to save her husband's life.
While Meera , a simple and conventional girl who lives by the strict traditions of her Rajput roots. She is content with what life has given her - a loving husband and a joint family. Ayesha Takia has given the best performance of her acting career so far in ‘Dor’. In the first half, she is the meek, submissive housewife with dreamy eyes and many a muffled desires. In the second half, she becomes a woman who learns to defy the cruel tradition, who learns to listen to her heart and live the way she wants to. After seeing this performance I must say I recalled Smita Patil’s role in Manthan!!!
Meera never questions her being in the orthodox Rajasthani family…not even after her Husband dies-which brings drastic changes in her life!
Zeenat is compelled to make the long journey from the hills of Himachal Pradesh to Rajasthan's deserts, to meet Meera.
On her way she meets Behroopiya (Shreyas Talpade), a colourful character, whose uncanny instincts and good humour help to make the difficult journey easier for Zeenat. Behroopiya, who uses his skills to harmlessly con people to eke out a living, has a heart of gold. He acts as a loyal friend and an invaluable guide to help Zeenat find her destination.
Sorry for the inconvinience but the review is continued in the comments section!:D
