THE GRAND RETURN
Little did I know that I will end up watching this movie, when we planned to take a ride to Cochin. I never planned to watch any remake, or neither did I thought I would watch one soon. But I somehow ended up in the theatre where this movie was played, and I won't hesistate to say that it wasn't a bad experience. I was a bit sceptical about it, but there was nothing lost at the end, and it was too good for spending Rs.40!
It wasn't a perfect movie, but it was more stylish than any other movie I watched for a long time. The fact that I have never seen the original movie, helped me to look at ths movie as an entirely new movie, rather than just a remake. Well, not everyone seemed to enjoy the movie out there, but the unpredictability factor seemed to rule the place all the time.
Farhan Akhtar has managed to bring lots of surprises into the movie, and most of them are acceptable. Avoid the unacceptable, because the movie is supposed to be more stylish adventure rather than a classic. The movie has got maximum twists, but it won't be competing with "Wild Things" in any manner.
Among the Diwali-Eid releases, I don't think that there is a better option to go for. If you are looking for flaws in the movie, you can find some, because after all its a Bollywood movie, but its far better than the usual crap. You can go on and underestimate the movie because, the more you think that way, the more you will like the movie.
DON REVISITED
As you would expect and see in those trailors, Shahrukh controls the movie. We will need to use a better word than "impressive" to rate his perfromance in Don. He looks a bit dumb in the song "paan banaras waala", but otherwise he is simply astonishing. He seems to be living as a Don himself, especially in the song "Main Hoon Don". As usual, he has done justice to his role once again, and I believe that this is not the last time he has done that! Well, Shahrukh can do the negative character better than you can ever imagine, and he is full of energy throughout the movie!
Priyanka Chopra has done her role well. I was never impressed by any of her previous movies, but she looks pretty impressive in this one. Her role wasn't easiest to play, but she seemed to be more efficient in the movie! The action scenes suit her very well, and compared to the bulky Kareena, she does better in the dance sequences too.
Well, coming back to "Yeh Mera Dil", Kareena looks ridiculous in that one dance and she is just wasted in this movie. Next time she comes out with this kind of crap, I think it will be better to skip the entire movie. Ishq Kopikar - talking about her, she has done nothing in the movie at all. Wonder if she was kept in the movie just because Don needed a girl friend?
Booman Irani did do a fantastic job, and his transformation in the middle was even more impressive. He is an actor who can do more than he is expected to do. Almost the same is the case with Om Puri, even if his role was more limited. He certainly deserved a better part in the movie, but unfortunately, it didn't happen. Arjun Rampal who plays another important role, comes up with a decent preformance. The revenge-seeker looked very much convincing, and he can be glad about it!
TRULY MALAYSIAN
The movie is concentrated in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia most of the time, and we have this Don (Shahrukh Khan) who works for some guy called Singhania. It seemed quite impossible to catch him, until DCP DeSilva (Booman Irani) managed to do so. He also finds another man Vijay (Sharukh the double role) to replace the Don, so that with his help, he can end the whole empire of crime.
Roma (Priyanka Chopra) is a revenge-seeking martial arts expert, who wants revenge against the Don for murdering her brother and his fiancee. At the same time, we have Jasjit (Arjun Rampal) looking for some revenge against DeSilva. This forms a very complicated situation, which Farhan Akhtar has made more twisted! So it will be better to watch it and get the best out of it!
Don is certainly a watchable flick, and if anyone is looking for logic in the movie, its better to stop watching Bollywood movies. If you are looking for some difference, this is the movie. The fact that it is shot in Malaysia, just makes the movie looks better. The stunning visuals and the amazing performance of Shahrukh really makes the difference. Its been some time since I saw one of his movies and I am glad that I chose this one.
All the possible flaws in the movie are neutralised by his performance, and he has been given some good support throughout the movie. May be, this is what you can call the evolution of a movie, in a stylish manner! And not to forget the advertisements of Malaysian tourism, they look attractive enough to make you travel all the way to Kuala Lampur!
WARNING: There is a Malayalam movie released with the same name "Don", so hope any one who comes to Kerala may not get confused, looking at the posters!
AND YEAH, KEEP COMMENTING
