At the age of 25, whenever I get free time, I get hooked to this channel. And I have three very specific reasons for doing so:
That’s So Raven
Lizzie McGuire
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
Well at the beginning when the channel was launched I had this notion about Disney that it would air all the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck toons. I mean that’s the first thing that strikes the mind when the name Disney pops up. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover that apart from the regular cartoon shows, the channel has more things to offer…………..to children, grown ups and everyone alike.
So why is Disney channel rapidly becoming one of my favorite channels? Read on:
That’s So Raven: “Jo jaan jaaye kal kya hoga???…….” Oh this show is hilarious. It’s about this teenage girl who periodically receives psychic visions of near future. And whenever she does, the situation becomes hilarious and most often than not, Raven and her friends find themselves in trouble. That’s because she isn’t able to see the entire future but only a few seconds of it. Almost always she and her friends have a tough time interpreting her visions and that leads to some solid mishaps and trouble. The show is an out an out comedy and the USP of show is none other than Raven. She might not be that great looking, but is a marvelous actress nonetheless. She plays the role of a simple girl with an unusual power of seeing the future with great ease and perfection. The best part of the show is the fact that it follows the Spiderman philosophy of “With great power comes great responsibility”. Raven is never shown using her abilities for anything evil, but instead makes a sincere effort of helping others in whichever way she can!!! I like the show for its comedy and acting.
Lizzie McGuire:I have heard that junior and high school is really tough in USA. And I know why, after seeing Lizzie. The show is about three very good friends Lizzie, Miranda and Gordon who try to make it through the junior school with each other. Although there isn’t anything great about this, the situational comedy and the way the three friends stick to each other, makes this a warm and a cute show. Oh yes! The real feelings of Lizzie are shown by her animated version. Her animated self teases her and irritates her, but always tells Lizzie to do whatever is right. Gordon and Miranda are great and together they have fun. The show almost falls into the cadre of Full House, where the protagonists are always shown to be sticking to their values and beliefs. I like the show for its ambience, plot, and of course Lizzie’s younger brother who always spells trouble for our poor Lizzie. It feels as if the show is the younger version of F.R.I.E.N.D.S
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody:This is the story of Zack and Cody, the incredibly cute twins, who live with their mom in the suite of Tipton Hotel. The twins, played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse, are incredibly notorious and give the hotel manager Mr. Mosbey a run for his money. The gruesome-twosome always play pranks and run helter-scelter but their pranks are either caught by their mother or spoiled by the hotel’s gift shop clerk: Maddy (Ashley Tisdale). The spoilt daughter of the hotel owner is London Tipton and she is all glamorous and dumb. But she is a very natural actress and brings about the comedy wonderfully. All the characters in the show are good looking and more importantly very natural actors. The show has such a happy go lucky atmosphere and manages to de-stress me a lot. What more do I want when this show brings a broad smile on my face? I like the show for the oh-so-cute twins and Maddy and London.
The one thing common in all the three shows is that, although all of them portray a hip-hop and fashionable lifestyles, all of them are quiet simplistic and cute in their approach towards life. After the hectic, humbled-jumbled week, the three shows are great stress busters. I enjoy my weekend mostly watching these shows, because on weekends they have a re-run of the entire week’s episodes.
Besides these three serials, the channel of-course airs all the Mickey-Donald toons, so there is plenty for children too. Hey I forgot to tell you one remarkable thing about this channel…all the advertisements aired during the commercial breaks are all targeted towards children. Even the hosts of many shows are children, so this makes Disney a truly and professionally an all kid’s channel. (I might sound contradictory towards the end of my review…. but who cares??)
So don’t know what to do this weekend???? Get hooked to the Disney Mania!
