Friendship is like a violin; the music may stop, but the strings will last forever!!!
DCH! Where do I start from? After more than a year of its
release & overwhleming response, I feel I am just too late to write a review for it. But its better late than never! Actually I was just watching the movie yesterday night on the television & surfing MS at the same time, so the thought just struck me that I should write a review to it as its one of the movies I really love!
First I thought of starting this review with its cast & crew but then I felt it would be really stupid of me to do so, as there would hardly be a person who is interested in life & hasn't watched the movie coz basically this movie has everything in it, A REEL MOVIE WITH REAL LIFE STORIES!!! Thats how I can describe DCH as! Romance, Comedy, Intensity, Friendship, Sadness, Confusion, Realisation & of course Great Music!
Dil Chahta Hai is about perils and pleasures of being young and carefree and then colliding with adulthood, and coming face to face with reality. Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) and Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna), fondly called Sid by his friends, are friends just out of college. Education completed, they stand on the threshhold of life. All three, different in their outlook and approach toward it.
Akash (Aamir), Cute as always but has really acted so well in the movie that I can't describe. The character of Akash towards to start seems to be a stinky one but then slowly you realise that he's actually so practical, NOT A HYPOCRITE. He is a daredevil, full of life and vigour, upto pranks always, believes in lovers but not in love. His affairs never last for more than a month. He thinks the whole concept of love is created to ruin perfectly healthy relationships. But of course, he does realise the real meaning of love when he actually falls in love.
Sameer (Saif), a real comedy character. I feel his character to be really sweet. He is falling in love all the time. He carries his heart on his palm and is ready to give it away at the first opportunity. He loves being in love , unfortunately for him though , he hasn't grasped the concept of it just yet wearing his heart on his sleeve . He is out there persevering , believing that he will find that ''special Her '', as long as he keeps searching.
Siddharth (Akshaye), is mature , sensitive and understanding . Siddharth aka sid knows the true meaning of the word . He feels it everyday , every hour , every minute .For his best friends , his acquaintances , for the stray dog living outside his gate , for the tree that's just been planted next door. He is basically an intense character. He is a painter and more sensitive to life around him.
Dil Chahta Hai is a film about these three distinct characters , their individual relationships and the effect that those relationships have on the three of them.
The three friends enjoy life but a day comes when Akshaye slaps Aamir for hurting his feelings (about love). Aamir sulks and the friendship breaks. While Akshaye gets busy with his passion (painting) and love (Dimple Kapadia), Aamir goes off to Australia to look after his dad's business. He meets a girl (Preity Zinta) whom he had briefly known in India, and their friendship slowly but surely blossoms into love there. In the end, the friends sink their differences. Aamir also finally realises & expresses his love to Preity.
There are some real great scenes & dialogues in the film. I can't write one comedy scene coz there are actually so many hillarious ones that I just can't put the right words on paper to describe them. The most intense scene is towards the climax when Aamir cries. Its so touching, he wishes to speak to Saif but by mistake dials for Akshaye with whom actually he's fought. It actually shows that no matter what, True relations, made from the heart can never be separated so easily!
Debutant writer and director Farhan Akhtar has given an extremely fresh and youthful look to the film. Besides, it does not conform to several norms set by earlier films and, in that sense, is quite a non-conformist fare. For instance, although there are three heroes, not a single one believes in love quite the way heroes do in Hindi films.
The movie co-incides so much with our actual practical life that you really feel one character to be you. For instance, if anyone asks me whom would I like to marry or what kind of a guy would I love to spend my life with, my answer would be AAKASH of DCH. Sweet, loving, true, practical, understanding, One who can really show you what life actually is & every moment it has a new treat for you, all you need is the eyes to see it & the heart to enjoy it!!
I'd just like to end off this review by calling out to all those people who havne't seen it yet, WATCH IT TODAY coz if you don't, YOU'RE MISSING SOME GREAT MOMENTS OF YOUR LIFE!!!
