Hey all you beautiful souls out there. Well this is my first review here, and what better than a movie that has most certainly been winning all “dils” since its release, to kick start your journey with. Yes guys, as easy as falling off a log, I am talking about Dil Bechara: indeed, the movie that would always be cherished as Sushant Singh Rajput’s chef-d’oeuvre.

Dil Bechara is an Indian- Hindi language romance drama, directed by the debutant Mukesh Chhabra and released on July 24, 2020 on the OTT streaming platform Disney plus hotstar. It is an adaptation of the famous 2012 novel, “The fault in our stars” written by John Green and later developed into a movie, featuring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

The movie primarily commenced its principal photography on July 9, 2018 in Jamshedpur. Since then, it has seen various systole and diastole, vis-à-vis its release date, initially due to post-production delays and later due to the covid-19 pandemic. However, following the unfortunate event of its protagonist’s ( Sushant Singh Rajput playing Manny) death, Fox Star Studios promulgated that the film would be streamed for free on Disney plus Hotstar from July 24, 2020. Regardless of subscriptions, in order to honor the actor and his work, Dil Bechara is now available to all through the streaming platform.

As was foreseeable, since its grandiose ingress in the land of cinematic space, there was, categorically, no turning back. The film has received abundant love from fans of all age groups and genres. It not only highlighted Sushant Sigh Rajput for his most memorable and immensely moving last performance, but instead also gave a due share of credit to its other performers like Sanjana Sanghi( Kizie Basu) , Sahil Vaid( Jagdish Pandey/JP) , Saswata Chatterjee( Kizie’s father) , Swastika Mukherjee( Kizie’s mother) and Saif Ali Khan ( Abhimanyu Veer) , to name a few.

Further, the bona-fide choice of sound tracks, like “Main tumhara”, “Dil Bechara: title track”, “Taare gin”, and “Khulke Jeene”, that the film is blessed with, also adds substantially to its already established glory. The profound cinematic experience authentically captured by Satyajit Pande at the picturesque locations of Paris and Jamshedpur, further explains why this film rightfully deserves to remain the talk of the town, at least for a millennium.

All in all, even though one might feel a certain sense of diversion in the movie, when compared to its original piece of literature, I think these contretemps, are in fact, major contributors to its success. Its sense of polarity and creative uniqueness, helps it create a new space of marked individuality in the world, one that would definitely be memorialised in the history of Indian cinema.
