DIGIT might not seem a new word to you at all, if you have been a reader of the newspaper or the CHIP magazine in the past.

DIGIT is a PART 2 of the CHIP and say’s that it hold true the values

that were previously seen in CHIP, of course that would be true as the people behind CHIP are now behind DIGIT, but are they holding the value of CHIP true or not let’s see.

CHIP TO DIGIT

CHIP is a computer magazine. which let’s you about computers and who to use them in order to make you life more simpler on this computing world.

There were article’s which had a quality and easy to understand and fun to read. The language being used was simple and the CD’S provided were cream on the cake.

DIGIT is a technology magazine. This magazine review’s technology who it is changing and how you can get closer to the technology world and have a look at the great products revolving around you.

They provide you with two CD’s one holding Software and other one holding Games.

REVIEWING DIGIT

DIGIT is a product of Jasubhai Digital Media.Their magazine mostly focus on the technology and computing world which everyone seems to be so interested in getting a glimps/knowing about.

The articles are mainly divided every month on the basis of the emerging technology every day and products which people are interested knowing about. They review every new product in the market keeping people updated about technology.

So they are doing their job right? So why aren’t they good enough?

The Magazine

Digit mainly consists of tests and more tests, through which they try to decide as to which are the best products available in the market.

The articles also over HELP,New computer tips and tricks,Better way of computing and come more computer stuff.

The Cover design is excellent but they still lack the touch.

The Review

This is where the DIGIT magazine looses most of the points. They say that the magazine is for those who want to know the digital world and so they are easing things.

But guys grow up,most of people who read the magazine and buy magazine at least know about computers. And as for the other half, who are you trying to impress by writing on things which most people are not at all interested?

The review seems to be carried on for pages and pages, but the same could be said within a page or two and the rest of the pages could be used to provide something else, think about it?

The Advertisements

Well this covers most part of the magazine and the classified section too contain ads upto two to three pages.

That’s not all the magazine is filled with ads within which occupy at least 25% of the pages. The rest all are the review’s which I have already mentioned.

TESTING....BUT WHAT

Really CHIP/DIGIT was fun to read at their initial stages but then whole scenario has begin to change.I have been their subscriber for the past two years and believe me when I say this ’’THEY ARE NO MORE FUN TO READ’’.

So what are they testing?Browser, digital camera’s,inkjet printers, laser printers,processors...and many more.

While some may be of use to the normal computers user’s , but guys what are you trying to prove by testing Keyboards and mouse?

Their January 2003(YA!HAPPY NEW YEAR), saw them testing laser printers, keyboards and mouse.

And guess how they were testing the keyboards??Well based on the number of buttons.More the buttons more the ratings.Well are the buttons of any use?

Most of the people I know don’t even look at the buttons.

OK, I agree to this point while I write on their testing part that they do test them good and write about it for every product. But carrying a test on every month seems to be like a not so good idea when you have a December issue mainly focused on BEST PRODUCTS OF THE YEAR.

The CD’s

Coming to the point now where people seem to be mostly over joyed by hearing that they provide two CD’s.OK they do provide two CD’s.

Let me tell you about them:-

MINDWARE

This CD is fully packed with Software and most of them constitute of Trial Versions and Shareware.Well this seems to be OK, but FREEWARE is what people are looking for right?

OK they do have freeware on the CD’s but only a few of them. The Software carried on the CD’s are mostly not of any use to the basic computer user, but if you are a developer and a net surfer then you should have a look.

The Updates are mostly provided every month.

PLAYWARE

The CD consist of Games, games which would take you a hell lot of time to download and after you download it and find that it’s a trial version.Well this part is saved as PLAYWARE carries atleast 4 large games with in every month.

Their also are many small games for those user’s who have a low configured machine.

CONCLUSION

Well if you are thinking of subscribing to DIGIT now you better not, I don’t see a point of doing so now.Their reviews and testing material are doing down every month both in quality and stuff.

I don’t what else is left to test for them and what more articles they shall write. It’s better you have a look at the magazine first from your Newstand and then decide wisely. My subscription is now over with them, and I haven’t renewed mine, so if you already are a subscriber then you better not renew.

I have said my part, it’s now left for you to think.
