Let me begin by saying that this movie shows a very true realistic feelings of a person.

Dhoop tells the story of a family – and their lives after they loose their son ( who gave his life for his country).Movie is based on real life incident.

Om Puri, a professor, & Revathi, a librarian have a son, Sanjay Suri, who is a solider, he is engaged to be married to Gul Panag.

A father tells his brave son

“Don’t take the bullet in the back, Don’t get into enemy hands alive, And If you loose, forget coming home.”

A son gives his life to his country…

A father looses a friend, a son ___ A mother looses her baby ___ A girl looses her love of life.

In return , they get a Petrol Pump (just the land)…A father wants to begin it in memory of his son. But not so fast, there we have all the corruption, no respect, and a long cycle of never ending journey.

Through this journey, a father realizes that his son gave his life for nothing, there is no respect for elders, that he has to prove that he is the father of the fall solider, threats from “gundas”. And also what a girl to do when her love is gone?

Movie shows you that journey from a “sad-proud” father to a “determined” father then to a “idol” father.

Movie makes you think::

Why are those brave soldiers giving their lives?

Where is the respect that our soldiers deserve?

What makes our government think that by giving the family a land makes it like they are thankful for what their son has done for their country?

Why is there so much corruption (especially in India)?

Performance by all is top-notch!

Om Puri as a warm, strong, and sensitive professor is just a pleasure to watch.

Revathi portrays well as an upset and depressed mother.

Gul Panag is very nice to look at (not like those other ugly models)- she knows hindi & can act well. She portrays well as a girl whose heart broken.

Sanjay Suri as a brave, optimistic soldier is good.

Memorable Scenes ::

(1) Advise to Sanjay Suri given by Om Puri

(2) Surprise Call from Sanjay Suri for his mom on her birthday

(3) Om Puri’s little speech for reporters

(4) Gul Panag’s decision to not marry.

(5) Om Puri’s scenes at the police station.

(6) Om Puri proving that he is Sanjay Suri’s father through photographs (u’ll def. cry during this scene)

(7) Revathi goes back to her job.

(8) Revathi finds out that her son died with an empty stomach.

Overall, this movie is a must for all of you!

It makes you cry and just realize how much a solider gives for his country.

Dhoop is different & experimental. Good movie by debutant director, Ashwini Chaudary for this memorable tribute to the fallen soldiers. Movie is slow paced with some flashbacks and a romantic song between Gul & Sanjay. Music by Lalit Senis alright. Nida Fazli’s lyrics and songs sung by Jagjit Singhand Hari Haran add the mood and tone of the movie.

---Go watch the movie and support all these kinda movie and Remember all those soldiers who gave their lives for your Freedom and keep those soldiers in your prayers who are still fighting for you. ---

Bhumi :-)

((On a Personal Note))

This movie (precisely Gul Parag’s role) reminded me of my old high school History Teacher. Beginning of the class, she told us about herself, she was in love with a man and they were going to get married too. But He was drafted to Vietnam War. And he never came back (he died in Vietnam), so she never got married and changer her last name to his.
